2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace variants detailed

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) started 2022 off with a bang with two very important launches. While the first was the highly anticipated Golf, the second was the launch of its best-selling model in Malaysia at the moment, which is the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

Featuring a tweaked design, improved safety, and a host of new features, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is still offered here in two variants which are the the Tiguan Allspace Elegance and the Tiguan Allspace R-Line.

So, in an effort to give those who are thinking of getting their hands on the new Tiguan Allspace a clear picture on what the differences are between both variants, we have dissected and summarised the specifications sheet of both variants to help you decide which variant to go for.

Price

Out of the two variants, the cheaper entry-level variant is the Tiguan Allspace Elegance which is priced at RM175,345 on the road without insurance. Compared to the outgoing model, the price has increased by about RM10,000 due to the addition of the new features.

The high-spec Tiguan Allspace R-Line on the other hand is priced at RM220,527 on the road without insurance, which is about RM11,000 more expensive than before.

In case you’re wondering how much the road tax charges are for both models, the Tiguan Allspace Elegance asks for only RM100 per year, while the Tiguan Allspace R-Line asks for RM433 annually.

Powertrain

Powering the Tiguan Allspace Elegance is a turbocharged 1.4-litre TSI engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, which is paired with a six-speed DSG gearbox which sends the power exclusively to the front wheels.

As for the Tiguan Allspace R-Line, power comes courtesy of a much more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine that kicks out 220 PS and 350 Nm. Unlike the Elegance variant, the R-Line comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and also the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

Thanks to the AWD system, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line also comes with the Dynamic Chassis Control feature with Driving Mode Selection, and Hill Descent Control.

Exterior

On the exterior, both variants of the Tiguan Allspace feature newly designed front and rear bumpers that are unique to each other. While the Tiguan Allspace Elegance comes with elegant looking bumpers, the R-Line variant features sportier ones.

Also similar for both variants are the list of body colour which includes Atlantic Blue, Deep Black, Platinum Grey, Pyrite Silver, and Oryx White.

Full LED headlights with cornering function and all weather light, as well as a light bar between the headlights come as standard on both the Elegance and R-Line variants.

At the rear, both variants come with LED Dark Red taillights with dynamic indicators.

Besides the different bumpers, the tyre size and wheel design also varies between both variants of the new Tiguan Allspace.

While the Tiguan Allspace Elegance comes fitted with 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line rocks a set of 19-inch Valencia alloy wheels.

Interior

Inside, both variants of the Tiguan Allspace come with Vienna leather upholstery.

Standard across the board are features like the three-zone air conditioning, a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system, active climate front seats, ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, a digital cockpit, and up to 1,775 litres of boot space.

Exclusive to the Tiguan Allspace R-Line are the ‘R’ emblems on the seats, steering, scuff plates and a few other spots in the SUV, and the Harman Kardon 480W sound system with 10 speakers versus the Elegance’s eight speakers.

Safety and Convenience

In terms of safety, both models come with a list of features which are almost identical. While the Tiguan Allspace Elegance comes with six airbags, the R-Line variant gets seven.

So there you have it – the essential list of features and the differences between the Volkswagen TIguan Allspace Elegance and the Tiguan Allspace R-Line.

Although they look quite similar, the differences and even the price are quite significance.
