2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Key highlights

It was earlier this year in March when Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) launched the facelifted Tiguan Allspace. Back then the seven-seater SUV was made available in two variant options - Elegance and R-Line. And it was only a few days back, August 1 to be precise, that the model line-up got a new entry-level variant, Life.

Let us now discuss the new Volkswagen SUVs' key highlights -

Strong on-road presence

The VW Tiguan Allspace is a pretty cool car and it justifies the fact that family cars are not just practical but rate high on style too. Volkswagen has given the seven-seater a new facelift design that sports a bold radiator grille, sleek headlights, LED illumination strip, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloys, and dark red LED taillights with dynamic function, automatic headlights and wipers, silver anodised roof rails, and silver ORVM.

Capable powertrain

Powering all the entry-level Life and mid-spec Elegance variants of the new VW Tiguan Allspace is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged mill generating maximum power of 150 PS at 5,000 to 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm from between 1,500 to 3,500 rpm. This powertrain offers a superb mileage of 12.98 kmpl.

The range-topping R-Line model is a bigger 2.0-litre TSI unit making 200 PS from 4,500 to 6,200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,500 and 4,400 rpm. The power is sent to the ground through a seven-speed DSG and 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Being the larger mill it runs on a bit of extra fuel with a fuel economy of 11.63 kmpl.

Further helping the SUV drive better are its five driving modes (Eco, Comfortable, Normal, Sport, and Individual) which the driver can adapt to as per mood and terrain. The range-topping R-Line also comes with Dynamic Chassis Control which helps the driver adjust the driving experience by modifying the suspension for each of the SUV wheels. Also, the inclusion of an Off-Road Profile adds to the car's handling and control ability.

Spaciousness

One of the biggest pros of the new VW Tiguan Allspace is the generous space it offers. Helping the seven-seater achieve the spaciousness tag is its flexible fold-down seats and easily adaptable third-row seats. In short, the new car is capable of adapting to any situation and Volkswagen correctly says it is as versatile as it needs to be.

The car offers 230-litre of boot space with all the seats up and with the 2nd and 3rd rows folded the capacity increases to 700-litre. Fully folded seats hike the car’s luggage capacity to 1,775-litres.

Super comfort levels

Comfort and convenience are a given when it comes to a Volkswagen and the same can be said for the new Tiguan Allspace. Helping the SUV gain this tag are features like - a 3-zone Climatronic air conditioning system, Active Climate front seats and 12-way driver electric seat adjustment with powered lumbar support & message function.

Also part of the kit is keyless entry, push-button start, a new Air Care purification system, illuminated side sill scuff plates and a reverse camera, and haptic-touch air-con controls that make the temperature adjustment seamless.

Stay connected

The new Tiguan Allspace gets a 9.2-inch Discover Pro Infotainment system that offers all the information needed. From Driving Mode Selection, 3D navigation, driver assistance systems, to seamless media playing, and more.

The R-Line model gets additional bits like a new 10-speaker, 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system

Safety at its best

The Tiguan Allspace is packed with bucket loads of safety and security features. The SUV’s specs sheet includes standard features like six airbags, anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring protection, driver alert system, cruise control system & speed limiter, ISOFIX child seats for front & rear seats, Lane Assist, a rearview camera with front & rear parking sensor, space & weight saving spare wheel with tool kit & jack, tyre pressure load indicator, warning signal & light for front seat belts not fastened, warning lamp for washer fluid level, safety optimized front head restraints longitudinally & height adjustable. The range-topping variant is a bit extra with its seven airbags.
