2022 Toyota RAV4 Australian launch set for early next year
KUALA LUMPUR: Undoubtedly, the RAV4 is one of the most popular models in Toyota’s lineup since its introduction back in 1994. And, the global sales numbers of the SUV are a testimony to the statement. Now, to make its popular mid-size SUV even more enticing, the Japanese automaker has come up with an array of new comfort, styling, and technology upgrades for the model. Although upgrades are yet announced for the Australian market only, where it will go on sale early next year.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the update would further boost the appeal of the successful RAV4. "The RAV4's mix of style and practicality, and in particular, its hybrid powertrain, really resonates with buyers and these upgrades will add to that appeal," he added.
On the exterior, the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will get redesigned headlights along with upgraded LED fog lights, enhancing nighttime vision. However, the petrol trims will benefit from the newly designed alloy wheels.
In terms of features, a stop-start system is also added to the gasoline variants while the Cruiser models get new creature comforts like passenger eight-way adjustable power seats, three-stage driver and front passenger seat ventilation, and a digital rearview mirror. Also, the Illuminated door switches are added on higher versions.
As for safety, the top-spec RAV4 Edge received a safety upgrade, that's a parking support brake for the rear cross-traffic alert system.
In Australia, Toyota offers the RAV4 with a choice of two petrol engines - a 2.5-litre four-cylinder producing maximum power of 206 PS and a 2.0-litre unit good for making 172 PS. The former is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox while the latter has a continuously variable transmission. On the contrary, the hybrid setup on offer uses a 160kW 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The upgrades also include engine improvements.
"While these updates won't arrive until early next year, Toyota is committed to keeping its customers aware of upcoming improvements and we encourage our customers to speak with their preferred Toyota Dealer about the upgrade on any orders placed," Mr. Hanley concluded.
