New exterior styling
As expected, the Saga facelift does not feature any significant exterior change with a little nip and tuck to the front grille. It now sports the brand’s new logo and an indent on the ‘Ethereal Bow’ bar.
The new Saga S sets itself apart from other trims with front and side skirtings adding a sporty feel and a black number-plate trim on the rear with a Proton badge. It also benefits from an external boot release button, black side wing mirrors with auto-fold function, and new 15-inch Dynamic dual tone wheels. The standard variants, on the other hand, ride on 14-inch units.
New interior styling & features
Inside the new Proton Saga, you can find a few changes on the design part and new features on the updated equipment list. Talking about the former, there is a redesigned centre stack with a larger cubby adjacent to the USB port and 12V socket, and an extra storage pad at the cupholder area. The AC control panel also gets a revamp with new knobs and two buttons in the centre. In addition, there is also a new Proton logo on the steering wheel and new interior lighting with automatic dimming.
That’s the case with Standard and Premium variants. And if you see the top-spec Premium S, you can find lots of red splashes here and there. The red trimming is present on the air vents surrounding, the steering wheel, as well on the instrument cluster.
The infotainment system on the Premium and Premium S variants is a 7.0-inch unit with new graphics. The version available with the top-spec also has a new OS and it supports Android and iOS for smartphone integration via screen mirroring.
Other exclusive features you get with the Premium S are semi-leatherette seats, a leatherette steering wheel, keyless entry, and push-start button.
Updated safety kit
Proton has also made some improvements on the safety front. The Standard AT now comes equipped with traction control, electronic stability control, and hill-hold assist. These features were earlier reserved for the Premium model only.
Other than that, the safety kit continues to feature two airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, and rear-seat Isofix child seat mounts as standard. The Premium variants also come with front parking sensors and reverse camera and front parking sensors with no ADAS systems yet on the list.
Same mechanical setup
Under the hood configuration of the 2022 Proton Saga facelift remains unchanged. All variants run on the same tried and tested 1.3-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four gasoline mill, which kicks out a maximum power of 95 hp at 5,750 rpm and a peak torque of 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels either via a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic.
So, that’s all about the new Proton Saga. You can now check out the latest model at any preferred authorised Proton showroom. On the purchase, you will get a five-year/150,000 km warranty and three complimentary labour services.
