KUALA LUMPUR: For those who have been eagerly waiting for the launch of the 2022 Proton Iriz, good news! The national automaker has just released the new version of the popular hatchback in showrooms across Malaysia. The latest model boasts an enhanced design and upgraded features, while the things under the bonnet remain the same. So, let’s explore what does the new Proton Iriz has on offer?
The new Proton Iriz is available in three variants, including the new Active trim. Have a look at their prices first:

Moving to the design enhancements, the hatch gets a new front grille with the latest round Proton badge and a new front bumper. The standard exterior kit includes halogen headlamps and 15-inch wheels, while the Executive trim also comes with LED daytime running lights, 16-inch wheels, and a rear spoiler. However, the all-new Proton Iriz Active flaunts new stylish LED headlamps equipped with auto on/off and follow me home function. Furthermore, the stylish cladding, a black roof with silver rails, and a 10 mm more ride height set the tone for its sporty appeal.
Inside the 2022 Proton Iriz cabin, we can see a new 8-inch floating infotainment head unit which gets all exciting features like online navigation, online music streaming, online weather forecast, smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, and 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity. It is to be noted here that this new infotainment unit is limited to the Executive and Active trims.
Included in the Proton Iriz Active exclusive highlights are:
- “Hi PROTON” voice command to control driver’s window, air-conditioning, navigation, music, and communication
- Redesigned air-conditioning controls with digital display
- New sport pedals
- Semi leather seats
- Active badges on the seats
With the Standard trim, Proton offers a new armrest with additional storage space, 6 USB ports - (3 at the front, 2 at the rear, and 1 behind the rear view mirror), an N95 cabin filter, a standard audio system, ECO mode switch and fabric seats. The Proton Iriz Executive, on the other hand, also gets intelligent entry with a push start button, leatherette seats, and a reverse camera.
For safety, Proton has packed the new 2022 Iriz with a reinforced body structure with hot-pressed formed steel. It has 6 airbags (4 as standard), electronic stability control, traction control and hill hold assist.
Like the earlier version, the latest Iriz also comes with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder or a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine. The former churns out a maximum power output of 95 PS and a peak torque of 120 Nm while the latter is good for making 109 PS and 150 Nm. The transmission options include a five-speed manual and a CVT.
