2022 Proton Iriz ACTIVE: How different it is from other variants?

It was only recently that Proton introduced the facelifted 2022 Iriz hatchback along with the new Persona. Now the updated model brings several revisions (both inside and outside), the biggest being the inclusion of a new variant, ACTIVE.

Proton is offering the 2022 Iriz in three variants - 1.3 Standard CVT, 1.6 Executive CVT, and 1.6 Active CVT. Prices? The base trim price starts at RM 40,300, the mid-spec can be yours at RM 47,100, and the range-topping model retails for RM 54,000.

Being the most expensive Iriz model out of the three, the ACTIVE trim must have a lot more to offer and we are here to discuss just that, so let’s get started.

Engine

In the department, the base time is powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder in-line 16 Valve DOHC, VVT engine. It pumps out a maximum power of 95 PS at 5750 rpm along with a peak torque of 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The remaining two, i.eThe Executive and ACTIVE trims are powered by a bigger 1.6-lire 4-cylinder in-line 16 Valve DOHC, VVT mill making a maximum power of 109 PS at 5750 rpm along with a peak torque of 105 Nm at 4000 rpm.

All three Iriz trims feature a Continuous Variable Transmission system, a multi-point injection fuel system, and a 40-litre fuel tank.

Exterior

The 2022 Iriz ACTIVE CVT being the top-most trim benefits from the following exterior amenities -

• LED automatic headlamps with follow me home feature
• LED DRLs
• Dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels
• Auto fold electric OVRMs with turn indicators
• Black roof with roof rails
• Black rear spoiler
• Rear wipers (standard)
• Remote trunk release
• All-around body molding

Out of the above list LED headlamps, black highlights, and dual-tone wheels are exclusive to the ACTIVE trim.

Interior

The ACTIVE variant cabin, like the exterior benefits from several luxuries- and comfort imparting elements like - a leatherette steering wheel with switches for audio & hands-free telephone, TFT multi-info display, ECO Driver Assist with ECO mode switch, intelligent entry with push start button, power window, driver window with anti-trap, sports pedals, manual air-con with digital display & N95 cabin filter, semi leather with fabric seat, and front armrest with console box.

The Active trim plays big on the connectivity front too with elements like 8-inch touchscreen display, voice command, online music streaming, online navigation, online weather forecast, smartphone connectivity, four USB port, 4D & WiFi, smartphone & Bluetooth connectivity, and four speakers.

The base trim gets a standard audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and two speakers. As for the mid-spec model, it misses out on voice command, 4G & Wi-Fi, and all online add-ons.

Safety

The 2022 Iriz has been awarded a five-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP, all thanks to its reinforced body structure with hot press-formed steel and several active & passive safety features. The Iriz ACTIVE trim being the top-variant benefits the most, the kit includes -

• 6 airbags
• Anti-lock braking system
• Electronic brake distribution system
• Brake Assist
• Electronic Stability Control
• Hill Hold Assist
• Traction Control System
• Two rear parking sensor
• Two front parking sensors
• Reverse camera

It is to be noted that the Executive variant shares the same safety specs as the ACTIVE model. As for the base Standard trim, it just misses out on curtain airbags, reverse camera, and front parking sensors, the rest remains the same.

Overall, the 2022 Iriz Active model does offer a lot more over the base and a bit more over the Executive variants. Now, it’s up to the customer to decide what all features are necessary for him/her and then decide which Iriz variant to buying.
