Mazda Malaysia earlier this year updated the CX-3 for the model year 2022. The revisions done to the fully-imported B-segment crossover were relatively minor and didn’t call for a major price hike.

Back then Bermaz Motor, the official distributor of Mazda cars in Malaysia, offered the CX-3 in a sole variant option, 2.0L High. However, the car maker’s official website now mentions two additional variant options, bringing the total number of trims down to three, the entry-level 1.5G 2WD Core, the mid-spec 2.0G Core, and top-spec 2.0G 2WD High.

Before we explain the Mazda CX-3 variants in detail, let us first get to the stylish crossover in detail.

Mazda’s latest B-segment SUV is available in the local market as a fully-imported unit from Thailand where the car is assembled at the automaker’s Rayong plant by AutoAlliance Thailand. Prior to the 200 models, the CX-3 was manufactured and imported from Japan.

2022 Mazda CX-3 Variants: Engine & Transmission

The base CX-3 variant is powered by a SKYACTIV-G 1.5L DOHC 16-Valve 4-cylinder with VVT engine. The 1496 cc mill generates a maximum power of 114 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 149 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a SKYACTIV DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

The mid-spec and range-topping CX-3, on the other hand, are powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0L DOHC 16-Valve 4-cylinder with VVT powertrain. With a displacement of 1,998 cc, the unit pumps out a maximum power output of 154 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 206 Nm at 2,800 rpm. Like the base Core variant, the dive here too is transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual shift mode.

All the CX-3 variants feature the same braking and suspension setup. The former includes ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear. As for suspension, the crossover benefits from MacPherson Struts and Torsion Beam at both ends respectively.

Also, common between the variants is an electric power steering (EPS) that gives the driver all the fun of dynamic driving.
