2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance: Full details
It was only yesterday that Lexus teased us with two images of its upcoming F Sport car. And today Toyota's premium arm has finally unveiled the mystery model and as expected/speculated it is a new F Sport Performance model - the IS 500.
The Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance is the first in the Lexus new F Sport Performance lineup. It is based on the 3rd gen IS that benefited from a major update last year. The Lexus latest sports sedan is developed by Naoki Kobayashi, Lexus's chief engineer, and his team at Lexus International. The new F Sport is targeted at the North American market at the moment, in the future, it might turn its head towards other international markets.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Design
The design and development of the new IS 500 go beyond the basic routine of slapping on a body kit and wrapping things up. While the sedans' overall shape is the same as the regular IS, the bonnet here is heavily sculpted and is raised by nearly two inches. Furthermore, the front bumper and fenders have been lengthened.

- Rear lip spoiler
- Enkei 19-inch split-10-spoke alloy wheels
With all the new additions, the latest IS 500 with the massive V8 unit is 65 kg heavier than the standard IS 350 F Sport. It weighs 1,765 kg.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Interior
The cabin layout of the latest IS 500 is pretty much the same as the regular IS. However, giving out its F Sport Performance identity is the 'F Sport Performance' badging found on the steering wheel, pedals, and door sill scuff plates. It is also the first thing we see on instrument cluster animation.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Engine & Performance
One of the biggest highlights of the new IS 500 is it going against the current downsizing trend. It is fitted with a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 472 hp at 7,100 rpm along with a peak torque of 503 Nm at 4,800 rpm. It is the same mill found under the GS F, RC F, and the LC 500. Seems like Lexus is utilizing its full potential before electrification fully takes over. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
With the above-mentioned set, the latest IS 500 can cover the 0 to 96 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. Though the automaker has not revealed the top speed, we are pretty sure, it won't be disappointing. Lexus claims the IS 500 to deliver a fuel economy of 10.2 kmpl.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Braking & Handling
Helping the new IS 500 F Sport Performance stop is the beefier braking system with larger 355 mm front rotors and 322 mm rear discs. Also, part of the kit is an Adaptive Variable Suspension, Yamaha rear performance damper, and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Safety
The sport sedans' standard safety kit includes Road Sign Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist.
The latest IS 500 benefits from Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite of driving assistance kit. It includes Pre-Collision System, Automatic Emergency Braking with bicyclist and pedestrian detection, Frontal Collision Warning, and Emergency Steering Assist.
2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Price
Lexus has not revealed the price range of the latest sedan, however, it'll surely cost more than the ongoing model.
