  • Unveiled globally a year ago, the Ioniq 5 is a mid-size electric SUV that comes under the automaker’s new IONIQ brand. The latter is dedicated to the battery electric vehicles of the automaker.

In the global market, Hyundai offers the EV in two battery options - a 58-kWh Standard Range, and a larger 72.6-kWh Long Range. Both come mated to the rear and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The power and torque output levels of the AWD Standard Range model have rated at 173 kW and 605 Nm, while the RWD trim kicks out 125 kW and 350 Nm. The former completes the century sprint in 6.1 seconds, whereas the latter takes 8.5 seconds to complete it.

Meanwhile, the Long Range AWD benefits from 225 kW and 605 Nm of torque from a pair of electric motors, with a 5.2 seconds acceleration time from zero to 100 kmph. The Long Range RWD makes 160 kW and 350 Nm and hits the century run in 7.4 seconds.

Included in the design highlights is a Pony-inspired profile with a clamshell hood, pixel-inspired squared-off LED headlights with unique daytime running lights, pixelated tail lights, pop-out door handles, and minuscule overhangs. The EV runs on aero-optimized 20-inch wheels.

Inside the EV, you get a flat dashboard with two 12-inch screens - one for all the infotainment needs and the other for the driver's instrument panel. Also part of the kit is a head-up display, a solar roof, and eco-friendly materials at many touchpoints.

Well, the information on the Malaysia-spec model is not available at the moment, but we hope the company will unveil some stuff near to the launch. So, stay tuned with us.
