2022 Ford Ranger: RM 168,888 priced range-topping WildTrak variant explained

It was only a few days back that the official distributor of Ford cars in Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), launched the 2022 Ranger pickup.

For Ford, the Ranger nameplate has brought nothing but success. Ever since its arrival, the pickup has been quite popular globally and has attracted a lot of praise and attention for the brand along with high sales numbers. Now, with the model year 2022, Ford has tuned the car with several noteworthy updates, making the pickup even more interesting.

The Malaysia-spec 2022 Ford Ranger is available in XL, XLT, XLT Plus, and Wildtrak forms, each with its separate trims. Thus, bringing the total variants across the range to six.

With so many options on the table, it gets quite difficult to choose the best-suited options. This very problem is solved here. This article is the last one in our three-part Ranger series wherein we have discussed each of the new pickup variants in detail. Thus, helping the prospective buyers makes a well-informed decision.

2022 Ford Ranger Wildtrak - Engine

The top-spec Ranger WildTrak is powered by a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine with a common rail direct injection fuel supply system. The mill generates maximum power of 210 PS at 3,750 rpm along with a peak torque of 500 Nm from 1,750-2,500 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission with a select shift and an electronic shift-on-the-fly shift system.

2022 Ford Ranger WildTrak - Chassis & suspension

Ford has equipped the new Ranger pickup with amazing braking and handling abilities. The WildTrak trim comes tuned with electric power-assisted steering (EPSA) - Rack & Pinion, it helps the driver steer the vehicle with full control, especially on those unstable terrains.

Taking care of the pickup’s smooth driving points is its suspension setup that includes a double wishbone with coil spring at the front and leaf spring at the rear. Braking, on the other hand, is taken care of by ventilated discs at both ends.

Adding to the pickup’s ability are the e-locking rear differential setup and 255/65 R18 alloy wheels.

2022 Ford Ranger WildTrak - Exterior

The new Ranger WildTrak looks stunning and packs several amazing exterior bits working both on the styling and functional front.

Part of the Wild Dark variant exterior is - the WildTrak scheme front grille, body-coloured front bumper, WildTrak scheme rear bumper, body-coloured door handle, black tailgate handles, roof rails, WildTrack scheme sports bar, Bedliner, six cargo box hooks point, side steps, tailgate assist, front & rear recovery hooks, and rear step bumper with a new box step.

Taken care of the pickup’s functional needs are the following features - matrix headlamps with an auto high beam with automatic levelling, front & rear LED fog lamps, LED tailgate mounted stop lamp, C-Clamp LED DRLs, ORVM with power adjustable & foldable function, 12V socket with 230V three-pin socket, and rain-sensing wipers.

2022 Ford Ranger WildTrak - Interior

The new Ford Ranger offers high levels of comfort and convenience to the passengers. Like its exterior, the cabin showcases an equally beautiful front with some amazing features.

The WildTrak model comes equipped with a 4-spoke leather steering wheel with control switches & tilt and telescopic adjustment, driver & front passenger one-touch up/down windows, auto-dimming rearview mirror, sun visor, dome light, leather gear shift knob, 8-way manually adjustable driver seat, 4-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, rear window defogger, pull-out cup holder, and 17-inch steel spare tyre.

Also, part of the kit is a lever electronic parking brake, intelligent 3-blink turn signal lane charging signal, electronic dual-zone climate control air-con system, rear air-con vents, and four drive modes (Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, & Slippery).

Taking care of the connectivity is a 12-inch multi-touch screen display head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, & voice recognition, 6 speakers, SYNC 4A, four USB charging ports, 230V AC outlet, windscreen mounted USB port, wireless charger, and an 8-inch TFT multi-information display.

2022 Ford Ranger Wildtrak - Safety

The new Ranger comes loaded with safety features, active, passive, security, and advanced.

The WildTrak trim passive safety kit includes driver, front passenger, curtain SRS airbags, front & rear seatbelts, seatbelt reminder for driver & front passenger, and ISOFIX. The car’s security is taken care of by global & selective remote central locking, security alarm with immobilizer, child safety locks, tailgate lock, and MyKey.

The active kit includes an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution system, electronic stability control, traction control, brake assist, hill descent control, hill launch assist, rollover mitigation, trailer assist/sway assist, adaptive load control, pre-collision assist, forward collision warning, reverse brake assist, parking sensors, and 360-degree camera.

The key highlight here is the advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control with stop and go, speed limiter, lane change warning & aid, second collision brake/post-collision brake, blind spot detection system, cross traffic alert, high beam assist, pre-collision brake, and a 360-degree camera, and evasive steer assist.

2022 Ford Ranger Wildtrak - Colour options

The top-spec Ranger is offered in a bunch of neutral and bright hues. The options include Luxe Yellow, Meteor Gray, Absolute Black, Sedona Orange, and Artic White.

In conclusion, compared to the previously discussed base Ranger XL and mid-spec XLT & XLT Plus variants, the range-topping WildTrak variant justifies its relatively higher price tag as it offers several additional features on all fronts (exterior, interior, and safety).
