2022 Ford Ranger XLT (MT/AT) & XLT Plus - Engine
The mid-spec Ranger XLT is powered by a 2.0-litre single turbo diesel engine with a common rail direct injection fuel supply system. The mill generates maximum power of 170 PS at 3,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 405 Nm from 1,750-2,500 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with selectshift transmission, depending on the variant selected.
The XLT Plus, on the other hand, is equipped with a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel mill making a maximum power of 210 PS at 3,750 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission with selectshift with electronic shift-on-the-fly.
2022 Ford Ranger XLT (MT/AT) & XLT Plus - Chassis & suspension
Ford has equipped the new Ranger pickup with amazing braking and handling abilities. The XLT and XLT Plus trims come tuned with electric power-assisted steering (EPSA) - Rack & Pinion, it helps the driver steer the vehicle with full control, especially on those unstable terrains.
Taking care of the pickup’s smooth driving points is its suspension setup that includes a double wishbone with coil spring at the front and leaf spring at the rear. Braking, on the other hand, is taken care of by ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear.
Adding to the pickup’s ability is a limited-slip differential setup and 255/70 R16 alloys.
2022 Ford Ranger XLT (MT/AT) & XLT Plus - Exterior
The new Ranger looks stunning and packs several amazing exterior styling and functional elements. Part of the XLT and XLT Plus variants outer body is a chrome front grille, body-coloured front & rear bumper, body-coloured/black door & tailgate handles, rear step bumper, side steps, bed liner, and sports bar.
Taken care of the pickup’s functional needs is an LED headlamp with manual levelling, front & rear fog lamps, LED tailgate mounted stop lamp, C-clamp DRLs, power adjustable ORVM, rain-sensing wipers, six cargo box hook points, and front & rear recovery hooks.
Over and above these features, the XLT Plus trim gets easy lift tailgate/tailgate assist and auto high beam headlights as standard.
2022 Ford Ranger XLT (MT/AT) & XLT Plus - Interior
The new Ford Ranger offers high levels of comfort and convenience to the passengers. Like its exterior, the cabin showcases an equally beautiful front with some amazing features.
The XLT and XLT Plus model comes equipped with a 4-spoke urethane steering wheel with switches & tilt and telescopic adjustment, driver & front passenger one-touch up/down windows, rearview mirror, sun visor, dome light, leather gear shift knob, 6-way manually adjustable driver seat, 4-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, rear window defogger, and 16-inch steel spare tyre.
Also, part of the kit is a lever hand parking brake, intelligent 3-blink turn signal lane charging signal, electronic dual-zone climate control air-con system, rear air-con vents, and four drive modes (Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, & Slippery).
Taking care of the connectivity is a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen display head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, & voice recognition, 6 speakers, SYNC 4A, two USB charging ports, 12V socket, windscreen mounted USB port, and an 8-inch TFT multi-information display.
2022 Ford Ranger XLT (MT/AT) & XLT Plus - Safety
The new Ranger XLT and XLT Plus come loaded with safety features, active, passive, security, and advanced.
The XLT & XLT Plus passive safety kit includes driver, front passenger, curtain SRS airbags, front & rear seatbelts, seatbelt reminder for driver & front passenger, and ISOFIX. The car’s security is taken care of by global & selective remote central locking, security alarm with immobilizer, child safety locks, and MyKey.
The active kit includes an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution system, electronic stability control, traction control, brake assist, hill descent control, hill launch assist, rollover mitigation, trailer assist/sway assist, and reverse camera.
The key highlight here is the advanced safety features like cruise control and speed limiter.
The XLT Plus being the more expensive one gets some additional bits including lane keeping aid, second collision brake/post-collision brake, and pre-collision assist/automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
2022 Ford Ranger XLT/ XLT Plus - Colour options
Unlike the base XT variant, the XLT and XLT Plus offered both neutral and bright hues. The options include Arctic White, Meteor Grey, Absolute Black, Aluminium Metallic, Lighting Blue, and Sedona Orange. The latter two are limited to the XLT Plus model.
In conclusion, compared to the previously discussed Ranger XL, mid-spec the XLT & XLT PLus variants justify their slightly higher price by offering additional features on all fronts (exterior, interior, and safety).
