2022 Ford Everest: Variants Explained

Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the official distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia, seems to be on a roll these days. After launching the next-generation Ranger pickup truck in July, the brand graced us with the next-generation Everest SUV earlier this month and now it gears up for the all-new Ranger Raptor launch, set for October 7, 2022. Well, you can check out the upcoming Ranger Raptor launch details here; in this article, we bring a detailed explanation of the different variant options available for the recently-introduced Everest

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many variants of the 2022 Ford Everest are offered in Malaysia?

SDAC offers the new Ford Everest in three variants viz. Sport, Trend, and Titanium.
  • What powers the 2022 Ford Everest?

The entry-level Everest Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre single-turbo inline-four diesel engine, making 170 PS and 405 Nm, while the Everest Trend and Titanium comes equipped with a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo unit, which generates 210 PS and 500 Nm.
  • SDAC offers the new Everest in three variants - base-spec Sport, mid-spec Trend, and top-spec Titanium. Here’s the variant-wise price list -

    2022 Ford Everest variants

    Price (on-the-road without insurance)

    Sport

    RM 263,888

    Trend

    RM 281,888

    Titanium

    RM 308,888

Included in the price is a 3-year/100,000km (whichever comes earlier) manufacturer’s warranty along with a two-year/60,000 km extended warranty exclusively offered by SDAC.

Let’s discuss each one of them in detail, starting with the base-spec Sport.

    2022 Ford Everest Sport

The new Everest flaunts a bold statement on the road, just like the Ranger on which it is based. Not only the underpinnings, but it also borrowed many of the design cues from the pickup truck like the C-Clamp daytime running lights, LED headlights, and a rugged-looking front grille incorporating a chunky horizontal bar. With the Everest Sport, you get the black grille, glossy black side mirrors and door handles that offer an instant distinction over the higher trims.

Other standard exterior highlights of the SUV are LED rear lights, LED fog lamps (front and rear), LED stop lamps, rain-sensing wiper system, side steps, fender flares, hands-free powered tailgate, 20-inch wheels shod with 255/55 profile tyres, power-adjustable and foldable wing mirrors and roof rails. The latter allows a maximum static load of 350 kg and a dynamic load of 100 kg on the roof.

Against the measuring tape, the new Everest measures 4,914 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width, 1,841 mm in height and spans a 2,900 mm long wheelbase. The water wading depth of the SUV is 800 mm with a max trailer towing capacity of 3,500 kg.

As for the 2022 Ford Everest colour, there are 7 options to choose from - Absolute Black, Aluminium Metallic, Equinox Bronze, Arctic White, Sedona Orange, Meteor Grey, and Lightning Blue (exclusive for the Sport trim).

Just like the exterior, the cabin of the 2022 Ford Everest is pretty similar to that of the Ranger. The dash is headlined by the vertically-oriented 10.1-inch central infotainment display mated to the SYNC 4A system and an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The other significant inclusions of the standard trim are -

    • 4-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel
    • Electronic parking brake
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • Electronic dual-zone climate control with rear vents and blower
    • Qi charging pad
    • 8-speaker audio system
    • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
    • 8-way adjustable powered front seats
    • Leather upholstery
    • Leather-wrapped gear knob
    • Ebony interior trim
    • Keyless entry with push start button

Powering the entry-level Everest is a 2.0-litre single-turbo inline-four diesel engine, cranking out a maximum power of 170 PS at 3,500 rpm and a peak torque of 405 Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. A choice of 4 selectable drive modes include - Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul and Slippery.

The safety kit of the 2022 Ford Everest Sport comprises seven airbags, ABS, EBD, emergency brake assist, electronic stability control with traction control, hill launch assist, manual speed limited, roll-over mitigation, adaptive load control, emergency stop signal, turn assist, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.

    2022 Ford Everest Trend

Next on the Ford Everest variants list is the Trend, which is RM18k pricier than the Sport. Differentiating the two SUVs are a few specific features and distinct engine tunings.

Talking about the former, the Everest Trend boasts chrome detailing on the front grille along with body-coloured side mirrors and door handles. Also, it rides on smaller 18-inch alloys wrapped with 255/65 tyres and has a manual liftgate. Rest of the exterior and interior kit remain identical to the entry-level variant.

Mechanically, the Trend is more powerful compared to the Sport. It comes equipped with a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo unit, which generates 210 PS at 3,750 rpm along with a peak torque of 500 Nm from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 10-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox, two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly (aka part-time 4WD system) and an e-locking rear differential. Here, you also get two extra drive modes (Mud/Ruts and Sand), bringing the tally to six.

In terms of safety, the only extra feature you get with the Trend is hill descent control,

    2022 Ford Everest Titanium

On the top of the SUV’s range sits the Everest Titanium. This full bells and whistles trim retails for RM 308,888, i.e. RM 27k dearer than the Everest Trend. While the engine setup of the two higher trims is identical, the range-topping model comes with the following exclusive modern bits -

    • Chrome front grille
    • Chrome side mirrors and door handles
    • Matrix LED projector headlights with auto high beam
    • Dual panel sunroof
    • Underbody protection bash
    • 12-inch infotainment unit
    • Electronic gear shifter
    • 230V AC outlet (400W)/Power outlet
    • Powered folding third-row seats
    • Adaptive Cruise Control with stop-go functionality
    • 360-degree surround view monitor
    • Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection
    • Lane centring assist
    • Lane departure warning and assist
    • Blind-spot information system
    • Rear-cross traffic alert
    • High Beam assist
    • Reverse brake assist
    • Tyre pressure monitoring system
    • Active Park Assist 2.0

That’s all about the 2022 Ford Everest variants. We hope this guide helps the prospective buyers choose the right variant suiting their requirements and budget.
