2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace teased ahead of debut
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year in June, Volkswagen introduced the updated version of the 5-seater Tiguan SUV and now it is ready with the refreshed iteration of the longer 7-seater Tiguan Allspace. The automaker recently released a sole teaser image of the new model, which is set to make its US debut on May 12, 2021. The updated SUV will see a similar treatment seen on the five-passenger version.
Revealed in the teaser image is the SUV’s tail end design which includes sharp creases, an upright roof, and slightly restyled tail lights with LED lighting. A redesigned rear bumper is also expected to be there. But if we talk about the front fascia, the image does not unwrap any design clue, however, upon taking reference from the smaller Tiguan (pictured below), we can expect a new front grille, new Volkswagen logo, sharper LED headlights, and reworked bumper. A new set of alloy wheels may also be included for a better stance.
Inside the cabin, the 2021 Tiguan Allspace could get new upholstery, a new steering wheel, an updated MIB3 infotainment system, touch-based AC controls, new natural voice controls, additional connected car tech, and ambient lighting. However, a number of features are likely to be continued on the model’s specs sheet, which includes three-zone climate control, a fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wiper and headlamps, and paddle shifters.
On the safety front also, features like nine airbags, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, park assist, lane assist, hill descent control, and autonomous emergency braking, are likely to be retained from the outgoing model. However, it may get a new Travel Assist safety suite.
When it comes to powertrain, the new Allspace could get an uprated 147TDI diesel engine just like the 5-seater version. Other than this, we expect the ongoing engines on offer, including 110TSI gasoline FWD, 132TSI gasoline AWD, 140TDI diesel AWD, and 162TSI AWD. On the transmission front, a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic) is likely to be there.
After debuting the facelifted Tiguan Allspace in the US next week, the German automaker is expected to launch the refreshed SUV in other global markets soon. About its arrival in Malaysia, no details are available for now.
