2021 Nissan Note e-Power breaks cover in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Expanding its electrified range in the home market, Nissan introduces the all-new electric iteration of the Note crossover that replaces the model available in the market since 2012. Yes, for the 2021 model year, the Japanese automaker ditched the standard petrol variants and introduced it exclusively with the company’s e-Power electrified powertrain.

The said powertrain drives the wheels only by the electric motor and uses the internal combustion petrol engine to charge the battery. This is the second generation e-Power system, which has an all-new electric motor offering an increase of 10% in torque and 6% in power. It also gets a 40% smaller and 30% lighter inverter. According to Nissan, the onboard petrol engine is also more efficient, resulting in increased power and better fuel consumption. If we talk about the numbers, the automaker is still hiding its cards on this matter.

Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s COO stated, “In 2016, the Note e-POWER became a hot seller as soon as it started sales in Japan,” he further added, “With this all-new Note, we want to bring the joy of e-POWER to even more customers. Once you experience e-POWER, you will instantly discover why it has been well received by customers. It offers linear and exhilarating acceleration that is unique to 100% electric motor drive but without the restraint of battery charge. This is the power of e-POWER.”

Talking about the visual changes, the 2021 Nissan Note boasts an evolutionary design with a larger V-motion grille upfront edged by the new headlights. Adding to these are new crease lines, more pronounced wheel arches, more arched roofline, and horizontally-mounted tail lights. The automaker also added a new Opera Mauve colour option to the existing 13-color palette,

Inside, the minimalist dashboard houses an instrument panel screen, and a touchscreen head unit linked in a unique way. The cockpit also has a new steering wheel and controls for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, as well as a new centre console that has a gear selector, an electric parking brake, as well as a wireless charging pad.

For safety, Nissan loaded the new Note with a bunch of driver-assistance systems, including the 360-degree assist and the ProPilot with Navi-link syncing the active cruise control with the navigation system for automatic deceleration on the highways in case of bends and for automatic speed adjustments in accordance with the speed limit signs.
