2021 Hyundai Kona 1.6 Turbo and N Line now on sale in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors opened the ordering books of the Kona turbocharged variants - 1.6 Turbo and N Line, a couple of weeks ago and now it has finally launched the models today. The new versions borrowed the exterior and interior design from the Kona 2.0 Active trim, however, some unique touches are there along with a different powertrain.

Kona 1.6 Turbo and N Line

Both new Kona variants are powered by the brand’s Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi inline four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 198 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 265 Nm at 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. Power is channeled to the wheels via a Smartsteam 7DCT. According to Hyundai, the new powerplant offers dynamic performance with a smooth and comfortable driving experience, along with a better fuel economy and reduced emissions.

So, what differentiates the two models? The answer is exterior styling. For a distinguished look, the Kona 1.6 Turbo gets a roof rack and dual-tone blacked-out roof, while the Kona N Line gets unique exterior touches like a typical Hyundai N Line model. These include body-colour claddings, N Line-specific front bumper, larger air intakes, a distinctive rear bumper, and twin tailpipes. Standard exterior kit includes LED headlights with DRLs, LED tail lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the new Kona variants boast the same design as the 2.0-litre model, however, the N Line gets a dedicated colour package with a black upholstery (leather/suede), red stitchings, and N badges on seats, gear, and steering wheel. Also, parts of the kit are metal pedals, and ventilated and heated front seats. Standard features available on both trims are a 10.25-inch instrument panel, 8-inch infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting system, automatic climate control, electric parking brake, power-adjustable driver seat, and leather upholstery.
