2021 Hyundai i30N is finally out of the covers; check all the details

KUALA LUMPUR: After teasing us for a while, Hyundai has finally revealed the all-new i30 hot hatch. And as expected, the automaker has turned the car with some fantastic technology and features. The list includes a power bump, lighter wheels, a steering and suspension overhaul, option of a quick-shift eight-speed automatic, bigger brake, and a significant safety kit.

Hyundai revealed the 2021 i30 is Europe with a new 'grin shift' mode that, according to the automaker 'releases maximum power ... for 20 seconds ... performance that is sure to bring a grin to the driver's face'. In order to activate the grin shift mode, all the drive needs to do is push the assigned button on the steering wheel. There's also Formula One-inspired 'push to pass' control. Great, right.

The company has also worked on the car's exterior profile and incorporated many changes over the previous model. The front now gets a bold new nose containing sleek headlights, 'tick-shaped' DRLs, and an aggressive grille. On the side, we see 19-inch forged alloy wheels and bigger front brakes. The rear is completely redesigned with more extensive exhaust tips.

Revision continues to the cabin that features new front seats made with lightweight material, BMW-M inspired instrument cluster with LED redline zone, and a new 10.25-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adding a hint of freshness are blue cabin stitching, metal pedals, seatbelts with 'Performance Blue' accents, and shift timing indicator (indicating the best time to shift gear).

The new i30 N is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine making 279 PS at 5200 rpm and 392 Nm from 1950 to 4600 rpm. The transmission front has a new wet-clutch eight-speed auto that offers quicker gear changes.

Hyundai offers the hot hatch with three new N performance modes - N Grin Shift, N Track Sense Shift, and N Power Shift. The car is now 0.2 seconds quicker with a 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.9 seconds.

Let's now discuss the 2021 Hyundai i30 safety kit, as mentioned, it is the one with several additions. It now includes pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking in reverse, lane-tracing technology, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot collision intervention.
