2021 Geely Bin Yue facelift is now on sale in China

KUALA LUMPUR: Geely unveiled the updated version of the Bin Yue just last month and now it has officially launched the SUV in the home market. The car, on which the beloved Proton X50 is based, received a number of updates inside out. But interestingly, the automaker did not increase the Bin Yue price despite the changes. It is priced at CNY 75,800 (RM 49,583) for the base trim and CNY 119,800 (RM 78,364) for the range-topping version.

On the exterior, the new Geely Bin Yue gets a new honeycomb mesh grille with a prominent grey fitting under it. The grey portion forms the ‘X’ design giving the SUV an aggressive look. On the edges of the new grille, we can see the unchanged LED headlamps which now, however, feature the welcome sequence that illuminates when someone unlocks the SUV.

Further accentuating the car’s sportier appeal are the new black-finished 18-inch alloy wheels, tweaked rear spoiler with the carbon-fibre finish, black racing stripe on the bonnet, and black roof.

Inside the new Geely Bin Yue, we can see an unchanged layout with a sports car-inspired two-toned finishing. The important updates are:

  • A bigger 12.3-inch infotainment unit running the brand’s latest GalaxyOS software stack. It has a 3.3-times faster-processing speed.
  • New 72-colour ambient lighting system
  • Two-tone upholstery
  • Multi-function leather steering wheel
  • New T-shaped gear selector lever
  • Full-length panoramic sunroof
  • New AI interior camera that monitors the driver while driving

In addition, Geely also raised the safety quotient of the new Bin Yue. It updated the advanced driver assistance pack by adding new features like Speed Limit Information Function, Remote Parking Assist, and an enhanced Autonomous Emergency Braking. A new 360-degree DVR is also on offer for recording the video feed from the different cameras installed around the car.

As far as the mechanical changes are concerned, the new Bin Yue gets a launch control system, electronically-adjustable exhaust, and also a new driving mode called ‘Track.’ However, the two engine options remain the same. The first is a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit that delivers a maximum power output of 141 PS and a peak torque of 235 Nm, while the other one is a 1.5-litre turbo mill delivering 177 PS and 255 Nm. The former can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch AT, however, a seven-speed dual-clutch AT is the only choice for the latter.

So, these were all the changes Geely introduced for the Bin Yue facelift model. Do you like to see them on the Proton X50 facelift, let us know in the comments.
