2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV unveiled, gets diesel option
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cadillac Escalade is not at all a small SUV, it’s over 5000 mm long, over 2000 mm wide and weighs almost 2268 kg. However, for some, it’s not big and flashy enough. Answering back, the company has now released the 4th-gen Escalade ESV.
The new Escalade is 400 mm longer than the regular model, i.e., it measures 5,766 mm. The wheelbase has been extended by 336 mm. As for the width, it’s increased by 3000 mm and now measures 2,060 mm. To put all of it into perspective, the 2021 Escalade is bigger than the already lengthy Chevrolet Suburban.
When seen from the front bumper to the mid-side profile, the new Escalade ESV looks almost indistinguishable from the short wheelbase configuration model. It is the rear profile that gives us a good idea about how much it has been stretched. The rear doors are now squarer and longer due to the extended wheelbase. Also, the window line has now become flatter than before. The piano black garnish between the rearmost windows and rear door have been extended as well. As for the rest of the rear, it is mostly the same as its shorter counterpart.
The new Escalade ESV is available in two engine options. First is the petrol-fed 6.2-litre V8 mill that produces a maximum power of 420 PS along with a peak torque of 624 Nm. And for the first time, there is a turbo-diesel option on offer, the 3.0-litre inline-six that makes 277 PS and 624 Nm of torque. Both the powertrains are coupled to a ten-speed automatic transmission.
We don’t have both the Escalade or Escalade EVS here officially, but we might get a turbodiesel-powered model in Chevrolet Malaysia lineup. Chevrolet Malaysia is missing an SUV for now, and we hope to get one soon. Here’s to hoping a new big Cadillac powered by a 3.0-litre diesel mill.
