2020 Toyota Harrier launched in Japan; price starts at RM 119,350

KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the official announcement made earlier in April, the Japanese auto giant, Toyota has launched the new Harrier in the domestic market. Firstly launched back in 1997, the fourth-generation of the mid-size SUV received a host of new updates in terms of design and technology. 

The new Toyota Harrier is based on TNGA (GA-K) Toyota New Generation Architecture, which gives its coupe-like design and enhanced driving performance.

The front view of the SUV features a new grille, and the all-new signature projector LED headlamps. The redesigned front fascia lends it a sharp and aggressive look while maintaining the elegance. The long, sweeping body lines accentuate the bold and wide styling of the vehicle, and LED light strips at the rear pose a futuristic look. 

For wheels, the automaker provides three options to customers viz. 17-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels, 18-inch ten-spoke aluminum, and a 19 inch-aluminum wheel. Moreover, a total of seven exterior colors are available, including Precious Black Pearl, shown in the images.

The new Toyota Harrier flaunts a sophisticated and elegant interior space. It features a multilayered dual-tone dashboard with chrome accents on the sleek air-condition vents, centre console, and three-point control mounted steering wheel. The cabin wraps with tactile synthetic leather and bentwood-inspired wood tones and piping. 

2020 Toyota Harrier is also well-packed with several technical bits, including a 12.3-inch TFT wide touch-display infotainment system with a T-Connect SD navigation system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility, SmartDeviceLink, and 9-speaker JBL premium sound system. It is also equipped with a panoramic sunroof with electro-chromatic glass and a digital rearview mirror.

The automaker offers the new Toyota Harrier in two engine options - hybrid and petrol. The hybrid mill houses the Toyota Hybrid System that uses a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine paired with an electric CVT, combinedly producing 221 PS with FWD and 225 PS with AWD. While the gasoline trim carriers a 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engine coupled with a Direct Shift-CVT producing 171 PS and 207 Nm. On the safety front, the Harrier specs sheet comprises Toyota Safety Sense.

The new Harrier is now available at all Toyota showrooms in Japan. The automaker is also selling the SUV through online mode, which marks the initiation of Toyota’s online sales in the country. The price starts at 2,990,000 yen (RM 119,350) and goes up to 5,040,000 yen (RM 201,179).
