2020 Subaru Legacy’ teaser images appear ahead of Chicago Auto Show

KUALA LUMPUR: Teaser images of the all-new 7th-generation Subaru Legacy appeared recently. The car is a modernised version of the sixth-generation Legacy and will be seen in flesh at the coming Chicago Auto Show (Feb 9 - Feb 18). However, the 2020 Legacy has not appeared with drastic changes as the previously redesigned models like Subaru XV, Impreza and Forester.

The sixth-generation Subaru Legacy was unveiled at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show and in exactly three years in 2018, it was sharpened up inside and out to give it a re-defined look. And now, the company has decided to come up with an all-new generation Legacy with some modifications.

Starting with the changes in the design, the 2020 Subaru Legacy comes with sleeker headlamp clusters in a tapered shape up to the fender. The patent C-shaped LED DRLs are also present at the front fascia but they are now complemented by a smaller element below the relocated main lighting unit.

As per the teaser images, the side profile is modified with slightly levelled-out primary character line, linking the rear taillight to the door handles and front wheel arch. Compared to the sixth-generation Subaru Legacy, the side mirrors have also been repositioned closer to the A-pillars.

The 2020 Legacy is based on the Subaru Global Platform, which was unveiled in March 2016 and is designed to be used on all of the company’s next-generation vehicles ahead to 2025. The platform would clearly give better result concerning improved cabin space and driving dynamics.

Inside the new Subaru Legacy, it gets a large touchscreen at the dashboard, which is linked to the HVAC as well as the car’s infotainment system. There is also a brand-new gear lever with additional controls on its right side. The large space below the air-conditioning controls has been reduced and the cupholders are pushed further down the central console.

Under the hood, the all-new car might get a 2.4-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder powertrain from the Ascent.
