2020 Nissan Kicks launched in Japan, features e-POWER drivetrain and ProPILOT driver assistance
KUALA LUMPUR: After making the world premiere in Thailand last month, facelifted Nissan Kicks is now all set to touch the domestic shores. Nissan recently premiered the new SUV featuring fully electric motor drive and advanced driver assistance technology in Japan, where it will go on sale at the end of this month at a starting price of 2,759,900 yen (RM 110000)
The updated B-segment SUV is equipped with Nissan’s award-winning e-Power electrified powertrain that offers robust, quiet driving and increased confidence on the road.
The new drivetrain is different from conventional hybrid systems. It houses an HR12DE 1.2-litre three-cylinder, which solely acts as a generator for a 1.57 kWh battery positioned under the front seats. The battery powers an EM57 electric motor that drives the front wheels and the combined power output stands at 129 PS while the peak torque is 260 Nm.
The system has a one-pedal function that allows drivers to accelerate and decelerate using the accelerator pedal. The four driving modes are Normal, S, Eco, and EV.
The 2021 Nissan Kicks also features the ProPilot semi-autonomous driving system to ease off the daily commutes. It helps the drivers in maintaining the right distance to the vehicles ahead, keeping the vehicle in centre of the lane, and applying the brakes when necessary. Furthermore, the Intelligent Emergency Braking and as well as Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication features monitor the front area of the car and reduces damage caused by collisions.
The all-new Nissan Kicks exterior design is highlighted by a sharp double V-motion grille, distinctive floating roof design, and futuristic LED headlights that complement the SUV's stylish appearance. Nissan also offers 13 exteriors shades for the model, including four two-tone options.
Coming to the cabin, the new Kicks features a two-tone interior, an exclusive instrument cluster, and a 7-inch infotainment system. It also houses the Zero Gravity seats, designed to enhance comfort and reduce fatigue. Moreover, rear seats offer 600 mm of knee room and 85 mm of headroom, which is quite ample for adult passengers.
“The Nissan Kicks adds an entirely new driving experience to the increasingly popular SUV segment of the Japanese market. It is born out of the groundbreaking ideas that inspire Nissan Intelligent Mobility – our vision of using cutting-edge technologies to bring excitement to the lives of as many people as possible,” said Asako Hoshino, the company’s Executive Vice President.
The SUV will be imported from Nissan’s Thailand plant, which is the global export hub for the Kicks e-Power. For the launch in Malaysia, the automaker has not made any official statements yet.
