2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo records the fastest lap on Tsukuba circuit
KUALA LUMPUR: Introduced last year at the New York International Auto Show with race-focused upgrades to maximize performance, the 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo has now come out with flying colours proving what it’s capable of. The car has topped the record table of being the fastest production ever to lap the Tsukuba circuit.
The Tsukuba circuit is 2 kilometres long with challenging sections that the car needs to cross. Though it’s not as challenging as the Suzuka, Nurburgring, Bathurst or Spa, it has served as a host to some of the biggest racing events in Japan, including the MX-5 endurance races.
The 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo took 59.3 seconds to complete the circuit and become the fastest production car ever to achieve the feat. Prior to this, even the supercars took just over a minute to complete the circuit. So, the GT-R Nismo is not only the fastest but the first to complete it under one minute’s time. The previous record-holder was a Porsche 911 GT3.
The 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo features turbochargers borrowed from the GT3 racing version, new tyres from Dunlop, aerodynamic tweaks, better braking mechanism, and an improved gearbox. Aside from this, it has a significant amount of carbon fibre, that can be found on the hood, front fenders, bumpers (front and rear), rear spoiler, trunk, hood and side sill covers.
According to Nissan, the engineers worked on a theme “absolute street and track performance” with the aim to maximize the car’s control and predictability. The company also plans to take its upcoming Nissan Leaf Nismo RC electric vehicle to race.
