2020 Honda City unveiled in India ahead of July launch
KUALA LUMPUR: The much-awaited fifth-generation Honda City is due for launch in several markets, including Malaysia. The brand’s iconic model has gone through a major overhaul to keep up with the changing times. Specifically talking about the Indian market, Honda was about to launch the model a couple of months back but pushed it back due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Here we bring a piece of good news for those eagerly waiting for the launch of all-new Honda City. The automaker confirms the July launch in India and also revealed some key details about the sedan, which tally with the information disclosed by the leaked brochure.
The new Honda City will be available in three variants - V, VX, and ZX, with a choice of BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Out of these, the petrol mill churns out 121 PS (2 PS more than before) of maximum power and 145 Nm of torque while the diesel unit delivers 100 PS and 200 Nm.
A 6-speed manual transmission option is available in both engines, whereas the CVT automatic is only limited to the petrol mill. 2020 Honda City fuel efficiency for the petrol manual version is claimed as 17.8 kmpl, while for CVT and for the diesel variant, it is 18.4 kmpl and 24.1 kmpl, respectively.
The new City is based on a ‘newly designed’ platform, which made it lighter, safer, and more rigid than the outgoing version. According to Honda, it also improves the car’s driving dynamics and NVH levels. Dimensionally, the new Honda City is 109 mm longer, 53 mm wider, and has the same wheelbase, but it is 6 mm shorter in height.
Exterior-wise, 2020 City features familiar design elements, but nine-unit sleek LED headlamps, and muscular bumpers give it a look similar to Honda Civic and Accord. It carries new 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels as well as LED tail lamps.
Honda City comes to be feature-rich, with the several bits included in top-spec models like an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay Android Auto, and Weblink compatibility, a 7.0-inch MID, Honda Connect telematics system comprising 32 connected car features and Alexa remote capability, electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, rear sunshade, ambient lighting, remote engine start, push-button start/stop with keyless entry, and hands-free boot release.
The automaker has not revealed the 2020 Honda City price for the Indian market yet, but it is expected to be around Rs 11 lakh (RM 61,697). For Honda City launch in Malaysia, we hope that it will be happening soon.
