2020 Honda City teaser launched, likely to hit the Malaysian market soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, the Malaysians get an official glimpse of 2020 Honda City. Being one of the most anticipated models of this year, the fifth-generation sedan appeared on the brand’s official Facebook page earlier this morning. The teaser’s caption reads, “The game will no longer be the same. Watch this space.” It seems something big is going to happen.
The all-new Honda City has already been launched in Thailand last year and just recently in India. And now, the Japanese carmaker buckles up for the Malaysian launch. However, Honda still keeps mum in the matter of revealing the specs of the latest City. But, here we bring the details of the fresh model that went on sale in other countries.
As compared to the outgoing version, the B-segment sedan gets a smoother and more rounded finish. Although, the front design of the 2020 Honda City remains similar as it continues to flaunt the brand’s Solid Wing face. It comes with “jewel eye” headlamps (influenced from Honda Civic) and a wide chrome bar connecting them.
The layout of the dashboard is completely new and seems reminiscent of its smaller sibling Honda Jazz. The cabin is quieter and has reduced NVH levels, thanks to the thicker engine under cover insulator, and polyurethane spray foam insulation.
Other appointments include an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Weblink support, Jazz inspired climate control switchgear, 7.0-inch MID, Honda Connect telematics system, electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, push-button start/stop with keyless entry, ambient lighting, and hands-free boot release. The Indian-spec version also features Alexa remote capability.
Coming to the oily bits, the automaker offers different engine options in different markets. The Thailand-spec City comes with a 1.0 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol mill, producing 122 PS of power and 173 Nm of torque. It is mated to a single 7-speed continuously variable transmission.
In contrast, Indian-spec Honda City gets 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Out of these, the petrol engine delivers 121 PS and 145 Nm while the diesel unit churns out 100 PS and 200 Nm. A six-speed manual transmission option is available in both, whereas the CVT automatic is only confined to the petrol mill.
In Malaysia, the automaker offers the current Honda City in two choices - 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol and a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid version. So, what it has on cards for Malaysia is likely to unveil soon. Till then, stay tuned with us for all the updates of 2020 Honda City.
