2020 Honda City: First Impression
There’s a new entry in the Honda sedan segment, and we are excited that after a long wait, it’s finally up for grabs. Also, the same car caused a bit of a stir in the market. Any guesses? Well, it is the brand-new Honda City.
Honda previously revealed information about the new City in bits and pieces, and now the car has finally reached the dealerships. For those of you who don’t know, the new City was launched on August 28th, 2020, by Kah Motor, Honda’s official distributor in Singapore.
We must say that the Japanese automaker has done a great job, as in the first look itself, the new Honda City felt very promising. Besides, it’s sleeker, smarter, and spacious than ever. Let’s find out more about this new beauty in town via our first impression story.
22020 Honda City Variants
Honda Singapore offers the new City in two variant options - the entry-level 1.5 SV and the range-topping 1.5 RS. Note, it is for the first time that City is offered with the sportier RS trim, making the deal pretty exciting.
2020 Honda City Exterior
Honda wanted the new City to be no less than an ambitious sedan, and seeing the car’s exterior, we’d say the goal is achieved. Also, its design is clearly inspired by bigger Honda cars like the Civic and Accord.
There are several features in the new Honda City specs sheets that are both pleasing and attractive to the eyes. For example, at the front, the City gets a pair of sleek inline shell LED headlamps and daytime running lights that provide wider light distribution. Not to forget the Solid Wing Face integration is gorgeous and feels very upmarket. A nice bold grille acts as a bridge between the headlamps, and its sophisticated pattern would fancy many. Down below, there are fog lamps stacked neatly in the assigned black casing.
We find the new City equally bold from the side, thanks to its 15-inch alloy wheels, door skin mounted ORVM, and chrome door handles. Also, inspired by the Japanese Katana blade, a sharp character line extends from the front and goes all the way to the rear where it meets the taillights. Adding to its sporty appearance is a shark fin antenna.
Coming to the rear, the sedan benefits from wrap-around LED tail light clusters with signature lighting.
2020 Honda City Colour Options
Honda offers the brand-new City in five colour options, including Ignite Red Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl.
2020 Honda City Dimensions

2020 Honda City Interior
We have one word for the new City, spacious. Thanks to the car’s longer and wider dimensions, the owner benefits from a more generous cabin space. Further, there is a significant improvement in the legroom and knee clearance at the rear. The seats get a new frame design at the front, and the elongated rail spans offer wider legroom and comfortable leg placement. We’ll also like to mention that due to the extended rear overhangs and improved trunk lid shape, the boot space is extended to 519-litre.
Moving to the aesthetics, things inside are neatly laid out, and the dashboard is uncluttered. A large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
The following are some other key interior features-
- Push to start/stop button
- Rear ventilation outlets
- Digital instrument cluster with ambient lights
- Multi-functional steering wheel
- Cruise Control
- Remote engine start
- Automatic climate control with dust & pollen filter

2020 Honda City Engine
As mentioned, the 2020 Honda City is offered in two variants in - SV and RS, and the same engine powers both of them. Under the hood lies a 1.5-litre inline 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine making 121 PS at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm at 4300 rpm. The engine is paired to a CVT transmission that adjusts the gear ratio indefinitely, thus lowering the fuel consumption.
Honda provides the new City with an ECON mode that helps the owner drive green by automatically maximizing efficiency. The RS trim comes with race-inspired paddle shifters for a more exhilarating drive.
2020 Honda City Safety
The City ticks off the right amount of boxes when it comes to safety. ASEAN NCAP has awarded the car a 5-star safety rating. Some of its key safety features are-
