2020 Drive for Design contest for new Ram pick-up
KUALA LUMPUR: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has brought an excellent opportunity for those young auto-enthusiasts who have a passion for designing automobiles. The firm launched a “2020 Drive for Design” competition for U.S. high school students to visualize their designs for the upcoming Ram pick-up truck. The contest not only provides a chance to win attractive prizes but also serves as a platform where young designers can learn about automotive design as an exciting career opportunity.
The theme of the contest is ‘Built to Serve’, i.e., the automaker is looking for the designs which show up a specific purpose. The Head of Ram Truck Design, Mark Trostle, believes that pick-up truck is “more than just for towing and work; it has become a lifestyle vehicle.” Through this context, the firm wants to know how the young generation envisions that type of vehicle in the future.
The contest also has specific terms and conditions viz the participant must be a U.S. resident, enrolled in grades 10 to 12. The final design must be submitted in PDF or JPG format with a size 11x17 inch (or 5100 x 3300 pixels). The depiction must display the exterior or interior of the vehicle.
The submission deadline is May 1, 2020, while the results will be announced on May 8, 2020. To participate in the contest, interested students can visit https://fcadrivefordesign.com/#/.
The expert panel of FCA US Product Design Office will judge all the designs based on craftsmanship (25%), illustration (25%), design quality (25%), and originality (25%).
The winner of the best design will get a hi-tech Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16 mobile pen computer. While, second and third position winners will grab an Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. The winners will also get the opportunity for virtual networking and design demonstrations with FCA designers.
“The landscape of automotive design has changed and today’s automotive designers not only sketch cars, but they also create some of the most advanced user experience systems, work with 3D technology, research color trends and create interior spaces that are multifunctional and beautiful,” said Trostle.
Trostle is passionate about the competition and hopes that it will inspire talented students to become automotive designers. The contest was first launched in 2013, and this is the eighth year of its conduction.
