2020 Bentley Continental GT gets twin-turbo V8 unit
KUALA LUMPUR: For a while now, the 3rd-gen Bentley Continental GT is available with a twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 unit. This specific mill serves as the flagship unit for the grand tourer; however, there are a few customers that might prefer a smaller engine under the hood.
For the model year 2020, the Continental GT gets a V8 unit, as the company has decided to expand its engine lineup for the flagship car.
The car is scheduled to get the same 4.0-litre V8 engine unit as before; however, the company claims this one to be all-new, pooping out more horses. The powerplant offers a maximum power of 550 PS along with a peak torque of 770 Nm. Thus, making it develop 22 PS and 90 Nm more performance figure compared to the old 8-cylinder engine. The new powerplant is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox with an all-wheel drive.
On the performance front, the Coupe version hits the 100 kmph mark in 4 seconds. On the other hand, the Convertible model performs equally well with a run time of 4.1 seconds. Both the models share the same top speed of 318 kmph. For those who prefer to drive the Continental GT V8 more economically, it comes with a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down the V8 cylinder’s to save fuel.
Apart from a new powerplant option, the company has added a few new features on the two-door sedan. There is a new panoramic glass roof that gives the passengers an unobstructed view. The car can be had with ten-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels or nine other choices measuring up to 22-inches.
On the inside, the dashboard and door trim is wrapped in new High Gloss Carbon Fibre for a more premium feel. Contrasting nicely with the carbon fibre trim is the Piano Black veneer on the console.
2020 Bentley Continental GT standard features include -
- Fully-digital instrument panel
- 12.3-inch touchscreen display
- 10-speaker sound system with 650 watts of power
- A host of active driver aids and safety features
The US will be the first market to receive the 2020 Continental GT, and that will happen in Q4 of this year. For the other markets, we are yet to get a heads-up from the automaker.
