2019 Honda CR-V: Features explained

The 2019 Honda CR-V is the Japanese brand’s largest and most upscale offering in Malaysia. Out of the nine different models that are currently available in the country, the CR-V is bested in size only by the larger Odyssey MPV. Widely-recognised as one of the most successful crossover SUVs in the world, with the new 2019 iteration of the CR-V, Honda has cemented its crossover SUV footing in the local market.

The 2019 Honda CR-V is available in four trim options, out of which, the base variant gets a 2.0-litre motor, while the rest comes with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mill. Of them all, only one trim comes equipped with AWD, while the rest are all 2WD. Now, let’s get into some of the features of the new Honda CR-V.

Exterior features

Starting up front, all variants of the 2019 Honda CR-V come as standard with auto-LED headlamps, LED daytime-running lights and foglights. You also get stylish 18-inch alloy wheels shod with 235-section tyres, except for the base car which is only available with 17-inch rims. There’s also dollops of chrome garnish, namely on the front grille, around the side windows, and on the tailgate in the form of a thick bar. Also standard across the range are electrically-adjustable & closing side mirrors with LED turn indicators, front & rear disc brakes, LED combination taillights, roof spoiler and dual-exhaust pipes at the back.

On top of the above-mentioned features, the top-spec Honda CR-V (TC-P) adds auto high-beam assist, cornering lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and a programmable electric tailgate. The CR-V is available with a choice of five colours, namely White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, and Dark Olive Metallic.

Interior features

To begin with, the five-seat layout of the 2019 Honda CR-V opens up loads of space for the occupants. Not only is there adequate head, shoulder and knee room in here, but also a respectable 522-litre boot. Also of no question are the CR-V’s unhampered build quality and its fit & finish. Being almost on top of the pecking order in the family, all CR-Vs come packing an impressive list of goodies.

As standard, you get remote keyless-entry with push-button start, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with paddle shift, a funky digital driver’s display, electronic handbrake, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear air-con vents, cruise control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and dual rear USB charging ports. Furthermore, there’s a 7-inch touch-infotainment head unit with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth-telephony with voice recognition and an 8-speaker sound system.

Drivetrain and performance

While all variants of the 2019 Honda CR-V come as standard with a CVT gearbox, the base trim is only offered with a 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated four-popper. This mill produces 152 hp at 6,500 rpm and 189 Nm of peak torque at 4,300 rpm, all of which is sent to the front wheels. The results in a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 11.3 seconds, a top speed of 193 kmph and combined mileage of 13.3 kmpl.

The rest of the pack are powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged VTEC motor that pumps out 190 hp at 5,600 rpm and 243 Nm of peak shove between 2,000-5,000 rpm. Two of the three variants with this engine are just 2WD, while only one gets an AWD system. The former ones can make it to the tonne-mark in a brisk-ish 8.8 seconds, whereas the latter accomplishes the same in 9.2 seconds. And despite its added grunt, the all-wheel-drive CR-V can still manage up to 14 kmpl.

Safety features

To ensure maximum protection, Honda has packed the new CR-V to its gills with a swathe of passive and active safety features. As standard, the CR-V wields six airbags, ABS with EBD and braking assist, auto brake hold, hill-start assist, stability control programme, all-around parking sensors with a multi-angle reversing camera, and the obligatory rear ISOFIX anchor points. However, the fully-optioned TC-P variant also adds Honda Sensing to the above. This combines a bunch of stuff such as forward collision warning and mitigation, lane-departure warning and correction, adaptive cruise control, and Honda’s Lanewatch system which uses a camera mounted under the passenger-side mirror to overcome any blind spots.

With its exhaustive features and standard equipment list, it’s no wonder the new Honda CR-V comes across as such a well-rounded package. In the meantime, you let us know what you think in the comments section below.
