2018 Peugeot 5008 coming to Malaysia, open for pre-booking

KUALA LUMPUR: Peugeot Malaysia is busy expanding its lineup these days. As seven months post the launch of Peugeot 3008, the company now announce its plan to bring the 5008 SUV in the country. Nasim, the official distributor of Peugeot in Malaysia early today held a special introductory event for the sizeable seven-seater SUV.

The said public preview will run till Sunday and onlooker will get to see the all-new 5008 SUV along with other Peugeot cars. According to company officials, the massive seven-seater, the 5008 will be launched in the country on 25th April. And those visiting the ongoing showcasing at the Sunway Velocity Mall can pre-book the new 5008 by paying a booking fee of RM174k.

Peugeot 5008 will be a fully-imported car available in only one trim - Allure THP, priced at RM173,888 (excluding on-road-insurance). This makes the new 5008 an expensive purchase over the equivalent Allure THP 3008 by a full RM18,000. In the said price package are included three years worth of 24-hour Peugeot Assistance and warranty for 5-year/120,000 km.

Not only on the price front but the all-new 5008 displays a bigger picture than the 3008 on the dimension front as well. The measuring tape displays the following figure on the new SUV - 4,641mm X 1,844mm X 1,640mm (L x W x H). Thus, making the 5008, 194 mm longer, 3 mm wider, and 16 mm taller than the 3008.

On the design front, this SUV looks almost identical to the 3008. However, aspects like its longer wheelbase and the more upright rear windscreen distinct it from the former. Other highlighting features include full-LED claw-shaped headlights, 18-inch ‘Los Angeles’ alloy wheels, sequential indicators, and lion claw LED tail lights.

Step inside the cabin, and you’ll again have a very 3008 similar vibe. Apart from the below-mentioned amenities, what’s interesting is its cabin chrome work that seems to highlight different utility areas.

The available Allure THP variant is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. This mill pushes out a maximum power output of 166 PS at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 240 Nm at 1,400 rpm. Transmitting the power to the front-wheels is present the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission.

The 5008 is a full-proof car that takes care of passengers with safety features like ABS with EBD and BA, six airbags, Hill Assist Descent Control, traffic sign recognition, front/rear parking sensor, Driver Attention Alert, lane departure warning, Electronic Stability Programme and Dynamic Stability Control.

All these features make the new Peugeot 5008 a perfect car that’s all ready to go against the like of Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan X-Trail.
