2016 Infiniti Q50 Will Be Powered By A 400hp 3.0-liter Twin-turbo V6 Engine
Kuala Lumpur: The powertrain of 2016 Infiniti Q50 will feature automaker's latest 400hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. The compact executive sedan will also feature a range of other mechanical upgrades that will enhance its overall dynamism. The first Infiniti Q50, which launched in Malaysia, in August 2014, was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged. The car was sold with a starting price of RM249k.
The latest VR30 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine will be mounted at the top of the Infiniti Q50 range, thus making it the most powerful Q50 till date. While automaker claims that the said engine will also provide a great fuel economy, it can be had in two states of tunes. The lower tune will produce 300hp of power at 6400rpm and 400Nm of torque from 1,600 to 5200rpm whereas the higher tune will make 400hp of power at 6,400 rpm and 475 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 5200rpm. Both engines will be mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. In terms of outright performance, Infiniti Q50 is still behind the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S unveiled in Malaysia, earlier, in October, but the automaker is already working with its performance division to come up with a more powerful variant anytime in the near future. Apart from the new engine, the upcoming Infiniti Q50 also gets redesigned front and rear stabiliser bars in addition to an upgraded multi-link type rear suspension for better handling and stability.
The upcoming Infiniti Q50 is the world's first vehicle to get a steer-by-wire system which the automaker calls Direct Adaptive Steering. The DAS System of upcoming Infiniti Q50 models will get a major upgrade to improve the steering feel and feedback. The automaker also claims that it has optimized the second-generation DAS’ control logic to enhance road feedback by fine-tuning its parameters in such a way so that its default settings can also enhance the feeling which drivers get while using the conventional steering wheels. Till date, Infiniti's has sold almost 50,000 units of Q50 worldwide between January and October 2015, which is 65% higher compared to the same period in last year.
