2016 Hyundai Tucson launched in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur: The all-new Hyundai Tucson has finally arrived in Malaysia after a long wait. It has made an official appearance this time at Hyundai Sie-Darby Motors new regional training academy centre in Mutiara Damansara. Similar entries to the Tucson, Kia Sportage, Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail and Mazda CX-5 will be offered to the Malaysians in two variants, namely the entry-level Elegance trim and the Executive trim.

The Tucson is a small crossover SUV, and belongs to one of the fastest growing automotive segments, not only in Malaysia, but across the region and the world. It was first introduced in 2004, and the new model is in its third generation, following the second generation in 2009. The third generation Tucson is larger and looks better than the outgoing model, with the overall silhouette taking cues from its bigger brother, the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Completely new from the ground-up, 2016 Hyundai Tucson measures 4475 mm in length (65 mm more), 1850 mm wide (30 mm more), 1655 mm of height than the outgoing Tucson. The wheelbase is 2670 mm, an increase of 30 mm.

The front end of the Tucson is more rugged looking, and carries the new Hyundai signature hexagonal grille. The front and rear ends are more upright, giving the Tucson a more masculine demeanour over the outgoing model. The overall impact is much more pleasing to the eye. On Executive trim, you will see 17-inch wheels wrapped in tyre size 225/60 R17 with silver coloured body panels, door handles trimmed in silver and dual exhaust outlets.

The power is adequate enough with power-train available for both the variants that come equipped with a 2.0 litre MPi Nu four-cylinder petrol engine. This unit enables the SUV to generate a maximum power output of 155 PS at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Drive gets channelled to the front wheels via Hyundai’s very own six-speed automatic transmission. Driving this new vehicle will take fuel consumption of about 7.9 l/100 km on the combined driving cycle.
