2015 Volvo XC90 awarded with IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating
Kuala Lumpur: Volvo XC90 surprised everyone recently with its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Well, the story doesn't end here, as the all new 2015 Volvo XC90 has added another star to its unprecedented rating, Yeah the car has been also awarded as a Top Safety Pick+ status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating to given out by the US-based organisation.

According to the safety organisation, the Volvo XC90 geared up to this status after crossing out “Good” rating in five separate crash categories including the front small overlap, front moderate overlap, side impact, roof strength and head restraint and seats tests. And as expected, the car earned a maximum six points to earn a ‘Superior’ score in terms of front-crash prevention capabilities.
The major role in reaching this safety standard was played by the car's updated Volvo City Safety System. It was reported that the safety net allowed the Volvo XC90 to autonomously brake from speeds between 19 and 40 km/h. Volvo Safety Centre director, Cecilia Larsson commented over the results, “The independent testing result from IIHS once again highlights the exceptional nature of the work we do at Volvo Cars in taking car safety to a new level.”
The most arduous test among all was the small overlap test , it is arguably one of the most punishing forms of obstacles a car has to go through under the supervision of the IIHS. According to the reports, here the Volvo XC90 was driven into an obstacle at a speed of 64 km/h and surprisingly the car passed the test without any hiccups. A report by the IIHS also stated that “measures taken from the dummy showed a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.”
