KUALA LUMPUR: As per early reports, the wireless Uconnect system can be hacked easily, thus creating problems for the customers of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. In the US, 1.4 million vehicles affected by the wireless hacking issue have been recalled. The customers who were affected by the issue will gain a USB stick via mail providing software to resist further technical risks.
This is a voluntary recall by the company for ensuring the safety by updating the affecting software. The models which are affected are: 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pick-ups, 2013-2015 MY Dodge Viper speciality vehicles, 2013-2015 Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 Chassis Cabs, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SUVs, 2015 MY Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300,2014-2015 Dodge Durango, Dodge Charger sedans and 2015 Dodge Challenger sports coupes.
As per FCA, updation of software consists of some network-level security measures to safeguard those modifications that were described in reports. The customers who are facing these problems can visit www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ where they can enter their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) to confirm whether their vehicles are involved in the recall or not.
FCA claims, “that the software manipulation addressed by this recall required unique and extensive technical knowledge, prolonged physical access to a subject vehicle and extended periods of time to write code....and as no defect has been found, we are conducting this campaign out of an abundance of caution.”
It is beneficial to have such an automaker who is taking the step for the improvement of software to work better to solve the hacking issues.
