Peugeot Landtrek debuts in Malaysia, here’s all you need to know about the upcoming French pickup

Initially offered as workhorses to tackle tough terrains and muddy tracks, pickup trucks are lately becoming lifestyle vehicles with several creature comforts on board. The local market offers a lot of options in this segment, including the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max. Well, this list will get a new entry this year in the form of the Peugeot Landtrek. 

The official distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia, Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAASB) has just introduced the Landtrek on the local shores. 

Globally introduced in February 2020, the Peugeot Landtrek is jointly developed by Groupe PSA and Changan Automobile of China. Malaysia is the first country to get this double-cab pickup truck in the Asia Pacific region. It will be imported from China and priced around RM 123,000 here, confirmed the automaker.

Peugeot Landtrek dimensions

The double-cab Landtrek is 5,330 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,819 mm long. The wheelbase and ground clearance of the truck are measured at 3,180 mm and 235 mm, respectively. Compared to the segment-leading Hilux, the Peugeot truck is 5 mm longer and 65 wider and also has a 95 mm longer wheelbase. However, when it comes to ground clearance, the Toyota model remains ahead with 286 mm.

The Peugeot Landtrek is claimed to offer the most spacious cargo bed on the market with exact dimensions as 1630 mm length, 1600 mm width, and 500 mm depth. The Hilux deck, on the other hand, measures 1,525 mm x 1,540 mm x 480 mm.

Just like the brand’s other models, the Landtrek pickup also boasts a strong personality. The front design features a striking vertical grille with the Peugeot logo in the centre. Among the other key exterior highlights of the pickup are LED headlights. LED truck bed Illumination, LED tail lights, and chrome roll bar. Also part of the kit is 18-inch light alloy wheels created by PEUGEOT Style, offering a rewarding and distinctive look to the truck while guaranteeing intense use.

Peugeot designed the interior of the Landtrek with comfort as one of the focussed points. And, thus the pickup is kitted with plenty of creature comforts as well as storage spaces cleverly distributed within the compartments offering a total storage capacity of 27 litres. These include large door pockets that can hold bottles up to 1.5 litres, two 1-litre bottle holders in the centre console, 4 cup holders provided in the front passengers’ compartment, 2 cup holders in the central folding rear armrest, and retractable hooks on the back.

Peugeot Landtrek engine specifications

Internationally, the French automaker offers the pickup in two engine options - 1.9-litre VGT turbo diesel and 2.4-litre turbo gasoline. However, the local market will see the arrival of the former only, which churns out a maximum power of 152 PS at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. The transmission duties will be handled by a six-speed automatic gearbox mated to a part-time four-wheel drive system, which also features a rear differential lock.

Peugeot Landtrek safety 

As for safety, the pickup will be equipped with six airbags, an electronic stability program, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, hill descent control, trailer sway control, anti-skid regulation, tyre deflation detection, 360-degree parking camera, and two rear Isofix points. The driver will also be assisted by the systems like Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Control via an audible and visual alert.
