Nissan X-Trail - Safety features explained
Nissan X-Trail has received several accolades across the globe for its safety features. The company aims at improving the safety features of its vehicles to ensure zero accident. The company has been adding a host of safety systems in its cars to enhance the overall safety of the vehicle. The Nissan X-Trail was the second runner-up at the ASEAN Car of the Year in 2015 and also enjoys five-star rating by the NCAP. It also received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. The car is perfect for users who give utmost importance to safety above everything else. Let us look at some of the safety features of the Nissan X-Trail.
Forward emergency braking
The Nissan X-Trail uses a fully integrated radar system that scans the roads ahead and delivers assistance to the driver. First, it will give out an audible warning if the gap between the car in front is closing. If neglected, brakes would be applied partially and then harder if the warning is not attended to and space keeps reducing. This eliminates the cases of drive dozing off behind the wheels leading to an accident.
Innovative driving & braking assistance
The Nissan X-Trail employs multiple technologies that assist you in driving and braking. Users get a Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Advanced Hill Descent Control (HDC), both of which ensure a smooth climb as well as descend. The HSA prevents rollback when on incline and HDC controls the brake while descending so the driver can focus on the steering. The Active Trace Control improves the control when cornering with abilities to brake each wheel individually.
The Intelligent Engine Brake uses CVT to apply engine braking and ensure smoother deceleration. This is similar to shifting to the lower gear while braking during manual transmission. The car is also equipped with Intelligent Ride control that applies braking and adjusts engine torque after the vehicle hits a bump ensuring in a smooth ride.
Intelligent Around View
The intelligent around view gives you a complete 360-degree view in the vicinity of the vehicle. While technically beneficial for parking, the four cameras allow the driver to know even the minute details of the surrounding. It gives the driver the freedom to manoeuvre without bumping into the kerb or scratching the side of the car. The cameras can also detect a moving object when the vehicle is stationary and give a warning. It will also highlight the area in which the moving object is detected. The images are displayed on the seven-inch screen.
Nissan safety shield
The features of Nissan Safety Shield are designed to protect people in the event of an untoward accident. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) with Brake Assist (BA) applies extra force to the rear when it detects additional weight in the back. The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) prevents the car from sliding sideways and maintains its path. Other standard security features include Front SRS airbags, immobilizer, LED lamp, alarm system, and child protector safety locks.
Zone Body Construction
Nissan has taken all measures to prevent an accident, but it has also ensured the safety of passengers in the event of one. The X-Trail is divided into a high-strength “occupant zone” and impact-absorbing “crushable zones”. The former is designed to protect the occupant, while the latter is meant to absorb the impact during the event of an accident.
During the Euro NCAP tests, the knees and femur of driver & passenger were protected during front impact tests. The car scored well even for the side barrier impact test and severe side pole test. In each instant the protection of all body regions was good. The X-Trail scored maximum points for the protection offered to pedestrian’s legs by the bumper.
Nissan has been increasingly focusing on providing safety features to protect driver and passengers. The company hopes to prevent accidents and protect the occupants if an accident were to occur. The top-rated X-Trail is a testament to Nissan’s commitment towards making safe vehicles.
