Mazda CX-5 offered in 5 variants - Know them all
The Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover that was launched way back in 2012. It is a promising model in the segment and also in the Mazda's lineup in Malaysia due to two primary reasons, one that it follows the company’s KODO design language and second, it is powered by the Skyactiv technology.
Having assembled locally, the Mazda CX-5 is offered in both petrol as well as diesel engine options across five different variants namely -
- Mazda CX-5 2.0L 2WD GL
- Mazda CX-5 2.0L 2WD GLS
- Mazda CX-5 2.5L 2WD GLS
- Mazda CX-5 2.2L 2WD GLS
- Mazda CX-5 2.2L AWD GLS
While the 2.2L variants come with a turbocharged diesel engine the other 2.0L and 2.5L are powered by a gasoline mill. The entire range is finished in eight spectacular color shades that include Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Meteor Grey, Jet Black, and Arctic White.
The combination of engine, transmission, and features make up for a perplexing mix. So, to make it easier for you, we explain each variant of the CX-5 in our upcoming sections. Hope it helps.
Mazda CX-5 2.0L 2WD GL
This is the base CX-5 variant that is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with Skyactiv technology producing 164 PS and 210 Nm at 6000rpm and 4000rpm respectively, mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, however, there is a manual gear shifting mode too.
It gets 17-inch alloys, auto ON/OFF LED headlamps with auto levelling feature, rain-sensing wipers, black door pillar finishes, shark antenna, rear roof spoiler, dual exhaust, and rear parking sensors on the outside. While on the inside it comes with a gun metallic dashboard finish and a 4.6-inch instrument cluster with TFT LCD standard display.
Other bits include cruise control, multi-function tilt/telescopic steering wheel wrapped in leather, dual-zone auto climate control, fabric-covered seats, a 7-inch MZD Connect infotainment system with full-colour touchscreen, and voice command support. The six speakers, 4 USB ports (2 at the front and 2 at the back), AUX input, Bluetooth, AM/FM tuner and reverse camera with guidelines are offered as standard.
Aside from this, it gets Mazda iStop idling technology and Mazda G-Vectoring Control technology as standard. On the safety front, this variant of CX-5 gets standard features like ABS with EBD, six airbags, dynamic stability control, electronic brake assist, traction control system, emergency stop signal, hill start assist, 3-point seatbelts with ELR, ISOFIX child restraint anchors and engine immobilizer.
Mazda CX-5 2.0L 2WD GLS
Next up is the sport 2.0L variant which in addition to all above-mentioned features gets LED daytime running lights, LED rear combination taillights, front parking sensors, and Mazda advance keyless entry system. Instead of black door pillar garnish, it gets piano black finish which is undoubtedly more upmarket than the former.
Inside, the dashboard ditches the gun metallic finish for metal & wood combo. Seats get the taste of leather while the fabric makes its way out. The driver gets additional support from the built-in navigation system.
In the safety department, inclusion of advanced features like adaptive front-lighting system (AFS), blind spot monitoring (BSM), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), and front smart city brake support (SCBS) is a welcome addition.
Mazda CX-5 2.5L 2WD GLS
This is the more powerful 2488cc four-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with Skyactiv technology that’s fitted on the CX-5 2.5L 2WD GLS. The power and torque outputs are rated at 195 PS and 257 Nm respectively. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system with a manual shift mode.
Instead of 17-inch wheels, it gets 19-inch alloys shod with 225/55R19 section tyres. Aside from the increased wheel-size, nothing is new on this variant. All the features from the 2.0L 2WD GLS are a part of its specifications.
Mazda CX-5 2.2L 2WD GLS
Powered by a 2191cc four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, this variant of the CX-5 churns out 175 PS of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm and 2,000rpm respectively. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual shift mode.
It has gained all the features from the aforementioned variant except the standard instrument cluster and the adaptive front-lighting system (AFS). There is a new 4.6-inch color instrument cluster with TFT LCD multi-info display.
The safety department is bolstered with advanced features like adaptive LED headlights (ALH), lane departure warning system (LDWS), lane keeps assist system (LAS), driver attention alert (DAA), and the rear smart city brake support (SCBS).
Mazda CX-5 2.2L AWD GLS
This is the top of the line model with the same turbocharged 2.2-litre diesel engine as the aforementioned variant. What’s different on this variant is that it comes with an All-Wheel Drive system instead of a 2WD system like all others. Additionally, it boasts a fuel tank capacity of 58 litres as opposed to others’ 56 litres. Rest, everything is shared with already-discussed diesel counterpart.
We hope that the above-mentioned information helped you understanding the CX-5 and its trims better.
