2018 Toyota Hilux L-Edition - Know the changes accompanying the new variant

Toyota Hilux, the name needs no introduction. Even on the global auto platform, this pickup has earned quite a reputation for itself. Revisiting pages from the past, the Hilux was first introduced in Japan in the year 1968, and over the period, it has captured millions of heart around the world.

Initially, the Hilux was liked and purchased for its pure rugged nature that combined the best of strength and capabilities. However, with the changing times, needs of the buyers also evolved and they demanded more than just a solid pickup. Market analysis showed that buyers were looking for a complete package that connected old Hilux attributes like reliability, durability, and off-road capability with lifestyle vehicle qualities.

Responding well to the consumer demand, Toyota Malaysia recently launched the 2018 Hilux L-Edition. This new introduction bolsters the ongoing eighth-generation Hilux with smart features that complement its already robust package perfectly. In short, the new Toyota Hilux L-Edition is an answer to all the customers who were for long yearning for a more premium version of the country’s best-selling pickup.

Here’s all that's new in the 2018 Hilux L-Edition -

1. The ‘L’ in the L-Edition stands for luxury, and this new variant has a number of elements justifying this tag

2. Remember the 2018 Hilux facelift? Well, the L-Edition is based on it and therefore carries the same Tacoma inspired exterior look and feel

3. Thanks to the new hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds and wide faux air-intakes, the front fascia now looks more masculine compared to the regular Hilux models

4. The new variant runs on new five-spoke 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels that displays a brilliant machine sheen

5. Bringing a fresh breeze to the familiar Toyota Hilux exterior design are the silver trim integrated rear step ornaments

6. Speaking out loud for its newness, the new Hilux trim features a stylish ‘L-Edition’ emblem on the tailgate

7. Adding a flavour of sophistication to its tough design is the new all-black interior that pairs perfectly with the piano black trim present through the cabin

8. The combination of leather seats along with perforation enhances every day driving pressure by providing better comfort and ventilation

9. The driver’s arena now sports a 4.2-inch Optitron illuminated meter panel with TFT color display and white-on-black dials

10. It’s not just style, luxury, and comfort. The L-Edition is packed with best-in-class safety gears like Vehicle Stability Control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Active Traction Control, Downhill Assist Control, and seven airbags

Under the hood configuration remains same as before, i.e., the buyers have the option to pick the new Hilux L-Edition either with a 2.4-litre or 2.8-litre mill. While the former produces a maximum power of 150 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm, the performance spec in later jumps up to 177 PS and 450 Nm. Both these engines are coupled to a six-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shifters that deliver low-end torque to all four wheels.
