2016 Toyota Prius: How it is better than the old one?

Toyota recently rolled out its highly anticipated and widely celebrated hybrid vehicle “Prius 2016”. Prius is known to be a messiah of all the hybrids running around the globe representing most “energy efficient” driving for an entire generation of drivers.

The Toyota Prius is world's first mass-produced hybrid gas-electric car and has been around for over 15 years. Now the Japanese automaker has given an aesthetic makeover to the car which was revealed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Toyota Prius is known to be an iconic hybrid car known for its exceptional fuel economy and eco-consciousness, however, this car so far did not have a reputation for being a fun or dynamic car.

But enter the all new 2016 Prius, which nullifies all the previous experiences the car has given. The Japanese automaker has keenly listened to the shortfalls of the prior generation car and has improved a lot upon it dramatically with the new model. All new Prius is a completely new marvel of modern engineering, it has been redesigned from the ground offering a better concept design, enhanced performance and landmark efficiency.

2016 Toyota Prius has completely eclipsed its predecessor in practically every way. Well at the moment Malaysians can only hope to own it in their garage but for the car enthusiasts let's find out Why the new Prius is better than the old one.

1. Aesthetic Design with improved aerodynamics

The Prius is not widely appreciated for it's designed still the all new facelift has some pretty substantial improvements. The all new car features a radically designed head/tail lights and a wedge chiselled by a wind tunnel. The new car’s styling is much more dynamic than before, with a whole new look up front, and more dramatic body sculpting. This time, it is also 2.4″ longer, 0.6″ wider, and had its height lowered by 0.8″. Summing up all we can conclude that Prius 2016 is possibly be one of Toyota’s best looking hybrid family car to-date.

2. Surprising Interiors with plethora of features

Toyota has completely refined the interiors of all Prius which has come out to be more of a surprise than its driving characteristics. The reminiscence of the earlier variants can be seen in the center-mounted instrument cluster however the rest is changed a lot.The white interior with full-color 4.2″ dash displays feels more futuristic and a concept car-like design. The interiors have also made more spacious than before. Besides that the car offers full-colour heads-up display, a 10-speaker JBL stereo with excellent audio quality, wireless Qi charging, and a plethora of driving safety and convenience features available too. The clever engineering inside by moving the hybrid battery to below the rear passenger seats frees up the new Prius’ boot space by 56 litres to a total of 502 litres.

3. Highly improved fuel efficiency and intelligent driving dynamics

The 2016 Toyota Prius is said to be offering a re-engineered 1.8-litre VVT-i equipped Atkinson cycle petrol engine with reworked electrical drive components that help contribute to a low fuel consumption of 40km per litre from the previous generation’s 32.6 litres per litre. Besides that the 1.8-litre engine is smaller and at the same time lighter with a thermal efficiency going to be 40%.

4. Enhanced Safety features

The immediate torque produced owing the electric motors can be thoroughly enjoyed inside the car without being formidable of the safety as the Japanese carmaker has worked a lot upon it. The Toyota Safety Sense P package offers a pre-collision warning, with brake assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, and dynamic cruise control with full-stop capability. Besides that the car also proffers Intelligent park assist which can help to steer this big car in and out of parallel parking too.

Despite being a biotech professional, Sanchit Agarwal's daydreams of driving a Ferrari and chasing cars in a Grand Prix made him jump into automotive journalism. His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
