2016 Jaguar XJ takes on Mumbai Dabbawalas to deliver lunchboxes!
Kuala Lumpur/Mumbai: Jaguar recently conducted a unique race between the company's latest flagship sedan, the 2016 Jaguar XJ versus the most diligent food delivery network across the world carried on by the Mumbai Dabbawalas.
The test was carried out to compare the efficiency of Jaguar's all new InControl Touch Pro system on its latest XJ model with the six sigma acclaimed proficiency of dabbawalas on the congested road traffic of Mumbai. The British carmaker gave a chance to one lucky dabbawala to travel in the luxury lounge of XJ while the other used the regular commute of Bicycle and Mumbai local trains.
Jaguar is a British automaker by its birth, but the growing machinations across the world in the automotive industry and the rise of globalisation led the key of this company to the Mumbai-based conglomerate Tata Motors. Tata Motors acquired the Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in 2008 forging another dimension to the India/UK partnership in the luxury and performance divisions. Therefore to demonstrate the functioning of Jaguar in Tata's backyard, Mumbai was the only place where something this unique could happen.
Talking about the dabbawalas, they have a meal distribution service unlike any service in the world. The concept has been effective since 19th century following the Indian traditions where working men of Mumbai prefers home cooked food from their own kitchens. The system comprises a complex network of daily commute by trains, buses, bikes and foot to deliver the home cooked. As per statistics, only one in six million lunch boxes is incorrectly delivered making it the most accurate human exercise without the use of any modern technologies.
Thus, challenging this unique system was an arduous task for the Jaguar. The company gave a chance to one dabbawala to ride in the new Jaguar XJ while the rival followed the traditional methods of delivery. Two lunchboxes were picked up from the same location, and the finish line was decided to be Famous Studios Mumbai. Both had to cover the eight kilometers stretch where one dabbawala was enjoying the luxury of Jaguar XJ with its detailed infotainment services and massaged seats using the InControl Apps navigation system from MapMyIndia. While the other one used the traditional way of commuting through the cycle, train and foot.
To our surprise, Jaguar XJ's exceptional power and performance blended with the outstanding driving skills of a Britisher cruised the car through the narrow Mumbai traffic onto the front gates of Famous Studios before the dabbawala.
The Dabbawala system is usually impossible to beat and the reason was the failure of Mumbai Local Train Network as one of them broke down in midway. This delay and InControl Pro navigation system inadequately helped Jaguar XJ to hit the finish line earlier. It helped the Jaguar XJ to win the challenge in a dramatic manner.
