What is the price of the GAC Aion ES in Malaysia?
Guangzhou Automobile Group Co (GAC) recently launched the Aion Electric Sedan (ES) in the Malaysian market. GAC is a state-owned Chinese automobile manufacturing company and currently China’s fourth-largest carmaker. The 2025 GIAC Aion ES aims to strike a balance between practicality, range, and affordability. The car's starting price is RM106,800.
How many variants of GAC Aion ES are available in Malaysia?
The 2025 GIAC Aion ES is currently available in a single version.
Which variant of GAC Aion ES offers the best value?
The 2025 GIAC Aion ES is available in a single version. More models may be introduced in the future.
What are the key features of GAC Aion ES?
The all-electric car is mounted on GAC’s Architecture Electric Platform 2.0 which the 2025 Aion ES shares with the Aion Y Plus. The latter is a mini-multipurpose vehicle (MPV). AEP vehicles are 20 percent lighter than market standards and come with an integrated three-in-one electric-drive system that combines motorcycles, electronic control, and a reducing agent.
Look-wise the 2025 GIAC Aion ES has a bit of a blunt styling with the rounded-off and seemingly sealed-off snout. There are some interesting design cues though, like the black inserts that stretch towards the rear windscreen. The design seems to elongate the C-pillars. The grille in the front is actually housed on the oversized bumper. The headlights look sleek. The 2025 GIAC Aion ES gets all-round LED lighting. The midsized sedan looks somewhat inspired by Lexus cars. That’s understandable because the design of many Chinese cars seems to be inspired by their American and Japanese counterparts. The 2025 GIAC Aion ES gets a downward-sloping roofline that’s typical to most sedans these days. The windscreen at the back almost merges into the boot. The shape is aerodynamic, structured by sharp lines and a bold grille. The car runs on 17-inch alloy wheels like the Aion Y Plus.
The interior of the 2025 GIAC Aion ES is practical to the point that it may even be called bland. The cabin gets leatherette upholstery. A lot of hard plastics have been used in the cabin. The central console houses the rotary drive-mode selector knob. It also gets a smartphone charging point and a cupholder. The car gets an auto-dimming rearview mirror and one-touch power windows. The dashboard gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay connectivity. It’s connected to a multi-speaker audio system that gets speed-based volume control. Some of the more important functions are hidden beneath sub-menus. The response time isn’t fast either. A 3.5-inch driver’s information display unit houses the analog dials that are easy to read. The dual-spoke (instead of the conventional three-spoke) multifunction steering wheel is easy to grip and operate. The 2025 GIAC Aion ES comes with 450 litres of boot space.
Is the GAC Aion ES spacious?
With 4,810 mm length, 1,880 mm width, and 1,545 mm height, the 2025 GIAC Aion ES is a spacious five-passenger midsized sedan. The driver’s seat gets six-way power adjustability. The adjustable steering column makes it easy to slip into the most comfortable driving position. The wide windscreen offers a great view of the road. The front-passenger’s seat gets four-way power adjustability. The cabin gets two-zone automatic climate control with a PM 2.5 filter system. There are pretty usable storage options like a fairly spacious glovebox, bottle holders, and a sunglass holder. All seats come with great back support. The 2025 GIAC Aion ES is truly a five-passenger sedan with a lot of headroom and legroom. The rear seat can be folded 60:40 to increase boot space.
What are the engine and transmission options for GAC Aion ES?
The 2025 GAC Aion ES is equipped with a single, front-wheel permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 134 PS/225 Nm. The motor is powered by a liquid-cooled, 55.2 kWh lithium-ion-phosphate battery. The powertrain returns an impressive mileage of 442km on a single full recharge. With no internal combustion engine (ICE), the cabin of the 2025 GAC Aion ES is noiseless. Some road noise is still audible. The sedan handles well on city streets. While it’s not a corner-craver, the Aion ES still manages to turn sharp bends with minimal body roll. The suspension system absorbs all bumps and potholes but some of the harder ones are felt inside the cabin. The overall ride quality is comfortable. The car gets front and rear reading lights.
What is the fuel efficiency of GAC Aion ES?
The 2025 GIAC Aion ES offers a mileage of 442km on a single recharge.

GAC Aion ES Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The first car from GAC’s Aion sub-brand for electric cars, the GAC Aion ES is a battery-electric sedan that was first previewed at the Guangzhou Auto Show in 2018. The sedan was facelifted in 2023, and it is this version that went on sale in the Malaysian car market in 2024. The GAC Aion ES is being offered in Malaysia in a single fully-loaded variant with three colour options – Glamour Black, Holographic Silver, and Pure White.
GAC Aion ES Interior & Features
GAC Aion has given the ES an all-black theme for its cabin, with the dashboard’s multi-layered design making the cabin look wide. The asymmetric-looking centre console is slightly tilted towards the driver’s side, while the cabin also has contrast bronze accents on the centre console and door panels for an enriched look.
Behind the two-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, the GAC Aion ES has a conventional twin-dial instrument console with a 3.5-inch LCD screen between the two analog dials. The centre console has a wide 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system within a trapezoidal housing with gloss black surrounds. The multi-layered design for the middle layer of the dashboard has AC vents incorporated within it, while the lower centre console here gets the rotary gear knob and electronic parking brake switch.
The GAC Aion ES is decently equipped with other modern features like the AION music system with speed-based volume control, Apple CarPlay, driver seat height adjustment, leatherette seats, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and cruise control. However, the sedan could have had more comfort and convenience features to keep up with the current times.
Aion ES Exterior
For a new-age electric vehicle, the GAC Aion ES looks simple but has a lot of modernity in its visual appeal. There are some design highlights of this electric sedan, which are worth catching one’s attention. One such attention grabbers of the GAC Aion ES are its flowing arc all-LED headlamps, with these inverted Y-shaped housings having dual LED projectors and L-shaped LED DRLs on the sides.
The huge blacked-out trapezoidal blacked-out air dam spread across the width of the front bumper makes the car look wide from the front. The side profile of the GAC Aion ES has a very Lexus-like vibe with the aerodynamic, door-mounted rearview mirrors, smoothly-contoured roofline, and a prominent crease flowing through the door panels.
The C-pillar of the GAC Aion ES has a slim blacked-out strip, which gives the GAC Aion ES a floating roof effect. The rear profile of the electric sedan has laser blade LED tail lamps, which have a split design with the upper portions extending towards the centre to form a connected LED light bar. The GAC Aion ES also has 17-inch alloy wheels and a powered tailgate.
GAC Aion ES Ride & Handling
The GAC Aion ES has Macpherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, which are tuned to deliver a well-cushioned ride quality. There are three drive modes on offer too – Eco, Normal and Sport, with the ES having decent performance and suspension feedback in all three driving modes. However, like many Chinese electric vehicles, the artificially-weighted steering lacks feedback at higher speeds.
Aion ES Engine & Fuel Consumption
The GAC Aion ES is a front-wheel drive sedan, which gets a front-mounted electric motor that generates a maximum power output of 136 PS and a maximum torque output of 225 Nm. This electric sedan is capable of achieving a maximum driving range of 442 km from its 55.2kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, which supports up to 60kW DC fast charging and takes 30 minutes for a 30-80 per cent charge from it.
GAC Aion ES Braking & Safety
GAC has kept things simple with the Aion ES when it comes to safety, as it covers only the basics such as dual front airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, reverse parking sensors and camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake with auto hold function, hill hold control, ABS with EBD and brake assist and electronic stability program. There are no ADAS features in the GAC Aion ES to keep its asking price low.
Aion ES Verdict
The GAC Aion ES might be a relatively new name in the Malaysian car market, but it has already become popular in many emerging and developed car markets for offering the benefits and performance of a premium electric sedan at a very affordable price point.
