BMW F 900 XR

Being a semi-faired sport tourer, the BMW F 900 XR gets a wide and fixed front fascia with semi-fairing in place of a single headlamp of the F 900 R, while it retains the rest of the muscular bodywork of the latter. The overall stance and size of the BMW F 900 XR look sporty and are not too intimidating in its size and stance, making it accessible even for first-time riders. 

The BMW F 900 XR has a heightened semi-fairing which has a dual LED headlamp setup, which features two LED projectors in each of the two housings and daytime running LEDs over their lower edges. The front fascia here also gets a compact and transparent windscreen above the headlamps, which adds to the style statement of the BMW F 900 XR but does not offer wholesome wind protection at triple-digit speeds.

The slim LED turn indicators are mounted on the lower edges of the side panels of the semi-fairing, which flow from the front chin of the fascia to the lower sides of the fuel tank. Talking of the fuel tank, the muscular element has been shared with the F 900 R roadster, and so are the single and flowing seat, rear side body panels, single-sided exhaust pipe and the minimalist tail section, which has a stretched rear fender with LED tail lamp at the top and LED turn indicators to its sides. The body-coloured engine cowl and black alloy wheels add to the style and functionality of the motorcycle.

Another element shared with the BMW F 900 R here in the sports tourer is its full-TFT instrument console, which features multiple display modes and BMW Motorrad connectivity. Even the long and single-piece handlebar, premium switches and adjustable hand brake and clutch levers have come from the F 900 R roadster. Needless to say, being a premium BMW Motorrad motorcycle, the fit and finish levels haven’t been compromised, with every single bit of the motorcycle showcasing top-notch quality.

The part sharing with the F 900 R roadster continues in the chassis department as well, with the BMW F 900 XR having the same bridge-type steel frame and a suspension combination of 43mm upside-down telescopic forks at the front and cast aluminium dual swing-arm with central spring strut featuring adjustable pre-load and rebound damping. The BMW F 900 XR rides on 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear tubeless tyres, while for braking, it has dual 320mm disc brakes at the front and a single 265mm disc brake at the rear. The motorcycle is also offered with an optional dynamic electronic suspension adjustment kit.

The BMW F 900 XR has a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-twin, 895cc engine powering its rear wheel, which is shared with the F 900 R roadster and is coupled to a 6-speed transmission. Here in the F 900 XR, this engine churns out 95 PS of maximum power and 92 Nm of maximum torque. With a top speed breaching the 200 kmph mark, the BMW F 900 XR also claims a fuel economy of 23.8 kmpl.

The BMW F 900 XR has the bare minimum safety features and riding aids for a motorcycle of this category, with it having dual-channel ABS, electronic stability control and two riding modes (Rain and Road). For some additional amount, the BMW F 900 XR can also be equipped with more features like riding modes pro, adaptive curve light, ABS Pro, traction control and keyless ignition. 

The BMW F 900 XR is for riders willing to upgrade from a quarter-litre motorcycle or a lower-spec middleweight motorcycle and find litre class and above motorcycles intimidating to ride and handle.
