Proton Ertiga Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
In early 2015, Suzuki terminated its auto-industry in Malaysia but soon after collaborated with Proton with a complied licensing agreement. This consolidation proved to be a business expansion opportunity for Proton because it provided them an additional advantage through their 29 showrooms. Soon after the collaboration, Proton launched 4 vehicles in 2017. The first model to be launched after the collaboration was the Proton Ertiga, which was brought to the market with a three-variant line-up, all powered by a 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated four-pot engine generating 94 hp and 130 Nm of peak torque, coupled with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. Proton Ertiga was launched as a Proton MPV in 2016 and it is the first compact MPV of the country to get EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) status, and it is well-known for the ample cabin space.
Proton Ertiga locks horns with Perodua Alza, Honda BR-V, and the Nissan Grand Livina among others. There are manual and automatic versions of the Executive and the Executive Plus which is only available as an automatic. The price ranges from RM 53,773 to RM 59,278. There is already a new version of the Ertiga that has been launched globally in 2019 but is yet to be made available in Malaysia.
Proton Ertiga Interior & Features
Talking about the interior aesthetics of Proton Ertiga, they draw huge resemblance from the Suzuki Swift and has an elegant feel. Though the cabin is adequately spacious, owing to which the first two rows have accommodated the passengers comfortably, but the rear seat is only meant for short-heighted people. They do, however, fold flat and are 50:50 split foldable making them good for storage. The second row is also 60: 40 foldable, fold flat, and can slide to create more legroom. The arrangement of AC vents has been very thoughtfully designed and the rear row passengers get their own roof-mounted air conditioner that uses re-circulated air with separate cooling coils. The interior colour theme comes in black and beige colours which are the most conventional colours to have. All the variants of Proton Ertiga are equipped with the same 2DIN infotainment system with ubiquitous features like iPhone connectivity and 4 speakers. The steering wheel is wrapped in premium quality leather and has all mounted buttons for audio, Bluetooth and cruise controls. For the utmost comfort and convenience of the driver, the driver’s seat is height adjustable. The overall interior cabin space feels nicely done and refined.
Ertiga Exterior
The exterior aesthetics of Proton Ertiga also draw heavy resemblance and looks like an extended body of the Suzuki Swift. Dimension wise, Suzuki Ertiga measures 4265 mm in length, 1695 mm in width, and 1685 mm in height with a wheelbase length of 2740 mm. It offers a good amount of ground clearance at 185mm. the Proton Ertiga rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with 185/186 tires all around.
Talking about the front fascia of the car, it dons a wide chrome grille and a chrome lip at the rear. Lack of LED Daytime Running Lights and headlamps, somehow subdue the style quotient of the car. Additional styling elements include folding mirrors and chrome fog lamps at the front. The overall layout and shape of the car are something that looks stunning ad upgrades the style quotient of a Proton model.
Proton Ertiga Ride & Handling
The ride and handling feature should also not be a concern since the model offers a pleasurable driving experience despite its height and weight. The car can reach a top speed of 150 kmph with full control and stability. The suspension set-up is also top-notch to keep everyone inside comfortable.
Ertiga Engine & Fuel Consumption
At the heart of Proton Ertiga lies an engine that comes from the Swift. It is the 1.4-litre K14B 4-cylinder 16 valve DOHC with multi-point fuel injection. The power plant is good enough to churn 91 hp at 6000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. All the variants come with the same engine choices, but you can still choose from a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic for the base model. The mileage offered by the efficient engine is something that can excite us. While testing the model under the New European Driving Cycle it was tested that the engine is refined enough to offer 16.67 kmpl for the automatic and 17.5 kmpl for the manual. The numbers are exciting to certify Proton Ertiga as an Energy Efficient vehicle.
Proton Ertiga Braking & Safety
The car comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX. With limited safety features, Proton Ertiga fails to receive a five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP. On the feature list is a reverse sensor standard across base variants that lets you park safely. In today’s world, this safety rating will not be appreciated by many when there are so many other models of the same segment that offer a considerable amount of safety features.
Ertiga Verdict
The recent edition of this car has gone through quite a few alterations. Like they have changed the tail light, chrome bar along with the emblem. The car will stun you with its fuel-efficiency. You will find the car pretty responsive too. There is no lack of space within. The brand has taken care of that in the most flawless manner. The seat materials are pretty comfortable and you can avail the most lavish journey even when you go for long trips. Thus, with the price tag that it comes with, it is a pretty good model to bet on.
