Perodua Myvi Review 2025
Abhishek Katariya says
The Myvi is Perodua’s offering in the premium subcompact hatchback category and is currently on sale as one of the most affordable hatchbacks in Malaysia. The Perodua Myvi started as a collaborative effort between Perodua, Toyota and Daihatsu. While the previous-generation versions of the Perodua Myvi were rebadged versions of the Daihatsu Boon, the current third-generation Myvi is a completely new car, with a self-developed design by Perodua and engine options coming from the third-generation Boon.
The third-generation Perodua Myvi debuted in 2017 and was given a minor facelift in 2020; it is this version that is currently on sale in Malaysia.
Pricing and Variants
One of the biggest contributors to the success of Perodua Myvi is its price point, which makes it the most affordable hatchback in its category. The range starts with the G variant priced at RM 46,500 for the non-ADAS version and RM 48,500 for the ADAS version. The range further expands with X (RM 50,900), H (RM 54,900) and AV (RM 59,900).
Pros and Cons:
Pro: Affordable pricing for all variants
Con: The non-ADAS version of the G variant could have been more affordable

Perodua Myvi Interior & Features
The interior layout of the Perodua Myvi has remained unchanged since 2017, and that explains why the cabin feels dated by modern standards. The hatchback is available with an all-black theme for the cabin, with the AV variant getting sporty-looking red accents around the AC vents and seat upholstery.
The Perodua Myvi gets a conventional instrument console with analogue gauges for the speedometer and tachometer as standard. While the AV variant has a modern-looking TFT MID in the middle, the rest of the variants have a more basic LCD screen for the same. This instrument console has a titanium silver finish in the G variant, glossy silver in the X and H variants, and glossy red in the AV variant.
The Perodua Myvi is also offered with a titanium silver finish for the transmission lever and chrome inner door handles in H and AV variants. These two variants, along with the X variant, also get titanium silver accents on the door panels. The AV variant also has a leather upholstery, with the other variants getting fabric upholstery. While the G and X variants have integrated headrests, the H and AV variants have detachable headrests.
Pros and Cons:
Pro: Premium-looking leather black and red upholstery in the AV variant
Con: Outdated dashboard layout
Features and Technology
The current form of Perodua Myvi is essentially more than half a decade old, which explains the lack of several modern features in the hatchback. Nevertheless, the equipment list of Myvi is still pretty decent for a car of its size and price. This hatchback gets features like a push start-stop button, driver-seat height adjustment, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and four speakers for the audio system as standard across all the variants.
The G and X variants of the Perodua Myvi have a standard 2-DIN audio system with USB support, with the X variant also getting Bluetooth compatibility. The H and AV variants have a more premium 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which has ‘SmartLink’ and HDMI supports, while also having a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The X, H and AV variants also have audio and call control buttons on the steering wheel, with the H and AV variants further getting voice recognition buttons. Also, while the G and X variants have a manual AC, the higher-spec H and AV variants get automatic climate control.
Boot Space and Storage
Another area where the Perodua Myvi feels worth the money is the amount of space it offers in the cabin. Perodua claims a maximum boot space of 277 litres, which might not be too big for a car of its size. However, the Myvi balances that with the more than sufficient legroom, knee room, headroom and shoulder room for all the five passengers on board.
The Myvi also has two cup holders in the lower front centre console and a closed glovebox, with the hatchback having slim door pockets and usable pockets behind the front seats.
Pros and cons:
Pro: Spacious rear seat cabin
Con: Boot space and small storage spaces feel limited
Pros and cons:
Pro: Standard push start-stop button, driver seat height adjustment and four-speaker audio system
Con: No Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Myvi Exterior
The Perodua Myvi was given a small facelift in 2020, and the hatchback has remained unchanged since then, which is one of the reasons why it doesn’t appeal much to the eyes at first. However, the frontal appearance of the Myvi looks quite contemporary with a bold front grille that has metallic silver accents in the G and X variants and glossy black accents in the H and AV variants.
All the variants of Perodua Myvi come with attractive-looking LED headlamps with auto-off and follow-me-home functions, though vertically aligned LED DRLs on the corners of the front bumper are available only in H and AV variants. The Myvi also gets alloy wheels as standard – 14-inch units in the G variant and 15-inch wheels in the other three variants.
The side profile of the Perodua Myvi looks simple, with the hatchback having a sharp angular crease flowing through the door handles, which are finished in chrome in H and AV variants. These two higher-spec variants also get front and side skirtings, rear spoiler, and dual-tone rear bumper. The outside rearview mirrors are electrically adjustable in the G variant and electrically adjustable and foldable in the remaining variants.
At the back, the Perodua Myvi gets a clean-looking boot lid, with trapezoidal combination tail lamps on its sides. The rear wiper, washer, and defogger are available in the H and AVD variants. There are five colour choices offered in the Myvi – Glittering Silver, Ivory White, Granite Grey, Electric Blue, and Cranberry Red, with the Red colour option not available in G, but the other three variants.
Pros and cons:
Pro: Aerodynamic and curvaceous design
Cons: No fog lamps in lower variants
Perodua Myvi Mileage Running Cost
Perodua claims good fuel efficiency figures for both the engine options offered in the Myvi hatchback. While the G variant with the 1.3-litre petrol engine claims a fuel efficiency of 22.2 kmpl, the other variants that get the larger and more powerful 1.5-litre engine deliver 21.1 kmpl fuel efficiency.
Pros and cons:
Pro: Impressive fuel efficiency on both city and highways
Con: Nothing much actually
Myvi Ride & Handling
The Perodua Myvi comes with a suspension combination of Macpherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. The light steering feel and soft-tuned suspension setup make the Myvi feel comfortable to drive at lower urban speeds. The Myvi claims a turning radius of 4.8 metres for the G variant and 5.1 metres for the other variants.
Pros and Cons:
Pro: Good low-speed ride quality
Con: Large turning radius of X, H and AV variants
Perodua Myvi Engine & Fuel Consumption
There are two engine options offered across the variant lineup of Perodua Myvi. The base-spec G variant is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which generates 95 PS and 121 Nm. The other three variants of the Myvi have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which pumps out 103 PS and 137 Nm. A CVT is offered as the standard transmission choice in all four variants.
Pros and cons:
Pro: 1.5-litre engine feels peppy
Con: Lack of bottom-end grunt in the 1.3-litre engine
Myvi Braking & Safety
There are plenty of safety features offered in the Perodua Myvi, which is quite impressive, considering that it is a cost-conscious hatchback. The standard safety features across all the variants of Myvi are four airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, traction control, emergency stop signal, hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and reverse parking sensors.
ADAS features like pre-collision warning, pre-collision braking, pedal misoperation control, front departure alert, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention and auto high beam are also standard in all four variants of the Perodua Myvi. The additional ADAS features, that are exclusive to the top-spec AV variant, are adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane keep control, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and reverse camera. Front parking sensors are also available in H and AV variants.
Pros and cons:
Pro: Standard safety features, including much of ADAS features
Con: No 360-degree parking camera
Perodua Myvi Verdict
Competitor Comparison
The Perodua Myvi is positioned as a much more affordable alternative to premium sub-compact hatchbacks like Honda City Hatchback, Toyota Yaris, Mazda 2 Hatchback, and Suzuki Swift Sport.
Conclusion and Final Verdict
The Perodua Myvi lacks the modernity and desirability that younger car buyers look out for when buying a new car. However, for those who want a practical car with minimal acquisition and running costs, the Perodua Myvi makes a lot of sense, with its roomy cabin, punchy and efficient engines, and low maintenance bills.
