Mazda CX-30

Mazda has known for setting benchmarks in build quality and fit and finish with minimalism in their interior cabin designing, and with the CX-30, it has taken the game to an altogether new level. The dual-tone black and brown theme certainly looks rich to the tee.

The classy looking three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with silver accents for its controls do look interesting, however, the boring looking fonts for the analog dials in the instrument console do not evoke the same impression. The instrument console is flanked with fin-like AC vents on either side.

Thankfully, that’s the only boring thing about this car, as the dashboard impresses one with its neat and premium layout with soft-touch plastics at places. The angular touchscreen infotainment system tucked jn the upper portion of the dashboard takes some time to get used to, but is functional and crisp in its usage. Below the flowing themed dashboard sits the small panel for automatic climate control with a touch of chrome to it.

The brown finish for the centre tunnel, the upper layer of the dashboard, co-driver armrest and door panels feels nice to touch and look at. What’s more appealing about the CX-30 is its lengthy feature list and space levels, which match that of the German compact SUVs.

While all the vehicles in today’s world are in a rat race to look as modern and flashy as possible, the Mazda CX-30 undercuts all of them with its super sleek curvaceous design, which looks modern and timeless at the same time.

The Mazda CX-30 gets the traditional Mazda front fascia, comprising of a wide-open front grille with rounded edges and silver chrome garnish throughout its bottom edge. The chrome element extends well towards the sleek looking eyebrow shaped headlamps which do come with LED projectors within them.

The Mazda CX-30 is one beautiful blend of a sports coupe and a rugged SUV, which can be sensed the moment you look it from the sides. The thick body cladding running through the wheel arches and lower portion of doors, as well as curvy roofline, make it a unique combination of their own. The door-mounted rearview mirrors do make a style statement as well.

At the rear, just like in all of its other offerings, Mazda has resorted to minimalism with classiness, with a sharply raked windscreen and clean design for the boot lid, along with bird eye-shaped horizontally laid sleek LED tail lamps.

Armed with Macpherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear and riding on 18-inch wheels, the Mazda CX-30 has a certain sportiness in the way it rides and handles as well. The low roofline manages to give it a low centre of gravity, which along with stiff suspension setup and nicely weighted steering, makes for a wonderful driving experience.

On offer for the Mazda CX-30 are two engine options – one each for petrol and diesel. While the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine churns out 163 PS of power and 213 Nm of torque, the 1.8-litre diesel engine generates 115 PS of power and 270 Nm of torque. Both these engines get a common 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The Mazda CX-30, like all the premium SUVs, has a major focus on safety as well, with kit like front, side, curtain, and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, adaptive front lighting, high beam control, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and driver attention alert.

The Mazda CX-30 definitely belongs to the list of coolest looking vehicles to have ever made their existence on this planet. With the fine details in its quality and equipment levels and basic engineering aspects, it surely ranks as one finely executed vehicle at the end.
