Yamaha Malaysia’s latest upright sport-touring motorcycle, the Tracer 9 GT is priced at RM 69,498 (excluding insurance). Included in this price, however, is a 20,000 km/two-year warranty.
The Tracer 9 GT replaces the ongoing Tracer 900 GT that retailed for RM 10,610 less than the former. Justifying the price hike are Tracer 9 GT’s more sophisticated electronics and powerful engine.
2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT engine
Powering the new Tracer 9 GT is a powerful 889 cc inline-three cylinder engine that also fuels the latest MT-09. The said mill makes a maximum power of 117 hp at 10,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
The power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. Though it is the same unit as before but refined for a lighter pull. The first and second gear ratios are revised for smoother operation and match the new torque curve.
Furthermore, the engine is now in a more upright position within the Deltabox chassis. It calls for improved front-to-rear weight distribution and enhanced rider feedback.

2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT electronics
For the first time, the Tracer 9 GT gets a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). Compared to the earlier-generation unit seen in the 2015 YZF-R1 superbike, the new IMU is 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter. Also, the inclusion of IMU calls for additional gears like - cruise control, traction control, four ride modes, side control, and wheelie control.
Braking is taken care of by 298 mm discs at the front and a single 245 mm disc at the rear. It gets a new swingarm which is 60 mm longer than the ones found on the Tracer 900 GT.
2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT features
The Tracer 9 GT gets bi-functional, mono-focus LED headlights that give it a dynamic look and at the same time provide superior illumination in any situation. The TRACER signature tail light adds to the motorcycle’s lightweight looks and sporty feel.
Another amazing Tracer 9 GT feature is a twin 3.5-inch TFT display that provides intuitive, easy-to-read data, which enables the rider to focus on the road. While the left screen displays rider aid mode, speed rpm, and gear. The rider screen displays trip 1 & 2, temperature, and odometer.
