Yamaha likely to discontinue YZF-R1 and YZF-R1 M

KUALA LUMPUR: Rumors surrounding the potential discontinuation of Yamaha's revered YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M superbike have been circulating within the motorcycle community for some time. In response to these rumors, Yamaha UK has recently shed some light on the situation and issued a statement.

The statement reads, “Yamaha Motor Group has taken the decision not to develop an EU5+ version of the R1 or R1M instead focussing on other mid-term business and product strategies that will provide future opportunities.”

This announcement comes as a surprise to many motorcycle enthusiasts and marks the end of an era for these iconic sportbike offerings.

The Yamaha YZF-R1 has long been celebrated for its impressive performance capabilities, innovative technology, and iconic design. Since its introduction in 1998, the YZF-R1 has been a standout model in Yamaha's sportbike portfolio, capturing the hearts of riders with its exhilarating ride and track-ready performance.

Similarly, the Yamaha YZF-R1 M, a specialized variant of the YZF-R1 designed for track enthusiasts, has garnered praise for its enhanced performance features and exclusive components. Well, the report originates from Europe, thus there's a good chance that the automaker might choose to sell these models for some time in markets with less strict emission requirements.
