Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition debuts in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha’s most popular 125cc offering, the Cygnus Griffus, has recently received an all-new avatar in the home market. Called the Monster Energy Edition, the new Japanese scooter entices customers with a special Monster Energy race livery that was earlier introduced for the R15 V4.0 and the Aerox scooter.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the key highlights of the Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition?

The Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition features a special Monster Energy race livery comprising a black base, blue accents and ‘Monster Energy’ and ‘Eneos’ decals.
  • How much does the Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition cost?

The Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition will go on sale in the Japanese market next year at a price of JPY 368,500 (approximately equal to RM 12,259).
  • The race-spec livery boasts a dual-tone finish comprising a black base hue paired with blue accents on the bodywork and attractive ‘Monster Energy’ and ‘Eneos’ decals. Although the new livery lends the scooter a more appealing look, its overall design remains the same as the standard model.

The scooter features the same apron-mounted twin-pod headlamp integrated with turn indicators and a sleek tail light. Among the other key highlights are a single-piece stepped-up seat, a wide handlebar, a flat footboard, angular mirrors, and a side-slung exhaust. The scooter rides on 12-inch wheels wrapped in 120/70 front and 130/70 rear tyres

Providing the rider with a clear display of the important information related to the vehicle is an LCD instrument cluster. For added convenience, a USB charger socket and ample under-seat storage are also available.

At the core of the Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition lies the same 124cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that we can find on the standard model. The said mill kicks out a maximum power of 12 hp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm,

As for the suspension, the scooter comes equipped with telescopic forks at the front and twin springs at the rear. Handling the braking duties efficiently are single discs on both ends.

This Yamaha Cygnus Griffus Monster Energy Edition will go on sale in the Japanese market in January 2023 at a price of JPY 368,500 (approximately equal to RM 12,259). While it is unlikely to arrive in Malaysia, the brand currently retails the two 125-cc models in the local market viz. Ego Avantiz and Ego Gear.
