KUALA LUMPUR: The world of motorcycles has just received the first-ever CNG-petrol-powered unit. Coming from the house of Bajaj, the famous Indian motorcycle maker, it is named 2024 Freedom.

    2024 Bajaj Freedom: Key details

    Variants & price: The 2024 Bajaj Freedom is offered in three variants, namely the Disc LED, Drum LED, and Drum, with the price ranging from 95,000 to 110,000 Indian rupees (RM 5,335 to 6,205), ex-showroom. The motorcycle for now is open for booking in India and will be eventually exported to countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, Peru, and Tanzania.

    Power source: All three variants are powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine making a maximum power of 9.5 hp at 8,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 9.7 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox.

    However, its primary source of power is a Compressed Natural Gas tank which is nested under the seat and is guarded by the trellis frame rails. It weighs 2 kg and holds 12.5-litres of CNG.

    Switching mechanism: As per the automaker, switching between the two power sources is pretty easy and can be done via a switch mounted on the left handlebar pod.

    Range: Bajaj claims, the Freedom can travel 200 km on CNG and 130 km on the petrol-powered engine which is meant as a reserve tank.

    Performance: When running on the CNG mode, the Freedom’s speed is limited to 90.5 kmph and 93.4 kmph on the petrol.

    • Long seats with extra seating space (especially designed for the Indian market)
    • 17-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels
    • Drum brakes front and rear
    • Telescopic forks and a monoshock at the back
    • Full LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity (top-spec model only)
