Say hello to BMW’s new electric star, the CE 04 maxi-scooter
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, BMW introduced us to a futuristic yet close-to-production electric scooter concept called the CE 04, and now here comes its production-ready version. The all-new BMW scooter caused a stir in the segment with its exceptional forward-looking styling and highly innovative tech functions. Name any smart feature and you will get that on the CE 04.
To begin with, the scooter gets a large colour TFT screen that measures 10.25-inch. It is integrated with map navigation for easy route planning and extensive connectivity as standard. This puts the new BMW CE 04 at the top of the scooter segment. Another highlight is the powerful LED lighting units all around. The adaptive turning light Headlight Pro is also available as an option that makes driving safer at night. Special light functions such as “Welcome” and “GoodBye” are also on offer.
At the core of the new BMW CE 04 maxi-scooter lies a unique liquid-cooled electric motor that has been adapted from its cars. The motor gets two power versions: 11 kW and 15 kW, generating maximum power of 31 PS and 42 PS, respectively. Both motors have their top speeds capped off at 120 kmph. The list of electronic rider aids include:
- Three riding modes (ECO, Rain, and Road)
- Automatic Stability Control
- Dynamic Traction Control
- Dynamic riding mode
Further, the scooter is fitted with an 8.9-kWh battery pack enabling a ride of 130 km on a single charge. It gets charged in around 4 hours 20 minutes with a regular wall socket, however, an optional quick charger will charge the EV in just 1 hour 20 minutes. BMW claims that the battery takes only 45 minutes to charge from 20-80 percent.
As for suspension, the BMW scooter gets a 35 mm telescopic fork up front and a mono-shock at the back. The braking duties are taken care of by a front twin-disc brake and a rear single-disc system. It also gets ABS as a standard to ensure a high level of active safety. The ABS Pro offering the greatest possible safety comes as an option.
Other highlights of the BMW CE 04 are:
- Storage compartments at the side as well as front
- Actively ventilated mobile phone charging compartment with USB-C charging port
- Future-oriented design and colour scheme
- Extensive range of original BMW Motorrad Accessories
“The new BMW CE 04 is logical and at the same time rethought continuation of BMW Motorrad’s electromobility strategy. Urban conurbations are its element. This is where it sets a new benchmark – in terms of both technology and visual style.” Florian Roemhild, Project Manager BMW CE 04.
The all-new BMW CE 04 electric scooter is now on sale in the UK market at GBP 11,700 (approximately equal to RM 67,260).
