Malaysia gets the updated 2022 Honda CB500X and CBR500R

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Honda bikes in Malaysia, Boon Siew Honda has rolled out the updated versions of the brand’s popular bikes -  CB500X and CBR500R. The models get some major performance enhancements for an even improved handling and riding experience along with new striking colours and bold new graphics.

The biggest update came in the form of a high-quality front suspension system. This comprises 41 mm Showa Separate Function-Big Piston (SSF-BP) upside-down forks, which are clamped by the new top and bottom yokes. At the rear lies the monoshock with a five-stage preload adjustment.

The 2022 Honda CB500X and CBR500R also received changes on the braking system, the former gets dual 296 mm wave-pattern discs with axial-mounted while the latter is equipped with radial-mounted Nissin two-piston calipers. 

In line with these dynamic improvements, the updated Honda CB500X also gets a redesigned 19-inch cast-aluminum front wheel. The new unit is lighter due to thinner spokes, which aids in turning ability. It also features a tough new mudguard design. The rear wheel unit measures 17-inch in size.

The 2022 Honda CBR500R, on the contrary, comes with new lighter 17-inch wheels with five Y-shaped spokes instead of six.

Adding to the updates are - 

• New and lighter swingarm for improved handling
• Lighter radiator to save more weight
• New fuel injection settings to improve engine character
• More powerful LED headlights for greater visibility

The power units of both models continue to be the same 471-cc, 8-valve liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum power output of 49.75 hp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 45 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and an assist/slipper clutch.

Also, the LCD instrument panel of the bikes remains the same with a Shift Up and Gear Position function.

New Colours 

Honda Malaysia offers the 2022 Honda CB500X in three colour options - Grand Prix Red, Pearl Organic Green, and Mat Gun Powder Black Metallic. However, the 2022 Honda CBR500R is available only in the Grand Prix Red shade.

Price

The 2022 Honda CB500X and CBR500R are priced at RM 36,099 and RM 34,499, respectively. Included in the price is a two-year or 20,000 km manufacturer warranty.
